13th Annual Cook Off at the Arizona Biltmore Sponsored By Sysco Foods

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Troon Golf takes great pleasure in congratulating Chef Patrick Karvis of Talking Stick Golf Club for taking top honors at the 13th Annual Taste of the Seasons cooking competition. The competition sponsored by Sysco Foods and comparable to The Food Network's "Iron Chef" program, challenged entrants to prepare a dish using Butcher Block Reserve Veal Tenderloin in the space of 60 minutes. Chef Karvis' dish of Sweet & Sour Veal Tenderloin with a Mushroom Marsala Risotto, Golden Raisin Demi Glaze and Jalapeno Granny Smith Apple Slaw, sealed the deal as he beat out 17 other accomplished chefs from the area to take home the title and $500 prize!

Chef Karvis has been with Troon Golf and Talking Stick Golf Club for more than three years. He began his culinary career in Florida as a dishwasher in a local Italian restaurant. It didn't take long for Patrick to realize his passion for the culinary world. He shortly worked his way up through the ranks of the kitchen and found himself working in New York at a seasonal resort on Long Island. From New York, Patrick made his way west to The Arizona Biltmore where he rose from pantry cook to kitchen manager. His first sous chef position was at Lon's at the Hermosa Inn where Chef Michael DeMaria was the first of many well-known chefs in the Phoenix area to help mold Patrick's personal style into what it is today.

"Patrick has always been one of our most innovative chefs, and his performance at this competition truly represents his talent and abilities," stated Paul Hadreas, vice president, food & beverage operations, Troon Golf. While most often Chef Karvis can be found in the kitchen at Talking Stick Golf Club, one may also find him participating in one of the numerous charitable culinary events in the Valley, appearing on local television, or teaching various cooking classes in the greater Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

Talking Stick Golf Club, the Arizona debut of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw is an extraordinary 36-hole facility located on and owned by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The name "Talking Stick" is derived from the traditional Pima calendar stick, an instrument used by the tribe to mark significant historic events, which occurred in a calendar year. The two uniquely divergent golf courses assure a host of memorable golf experiences, from links-style adventure through the grasslands and ingenious bunkering on the North course to a traditional style of play on the tree-lined South course. The uninterrupted desert panorama takes in the distant mountain ranges, reflecting cherished rural seclusion within an urban environment.

Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon Golf manages operations at more than 160 courses located in 27 states and 18 countries. Additionally, 31 Troon Golf facilities enjoy a Top 100 ranking by national or international publications. Troon Golf properties include The Peninsula Golf & Country Club, Millsboro, Del.; The Westin Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire, Scotland; Monarch Beach Golf Links, Dana Point, Calif.; Lake of Isles, North Stonington, Conn.; The Ridge at Castle Pines North, Castle Rock, Colo.; Palmilla Golf Club, Los Cabos, Mexico; and Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, Berkshire, England.Scottsdale, Ariz. - Troon Golf takes great pleasure in congratulating Chef Patrick Karvis of Talking Stick Golf Club for taking top honors at the 13th Annual Taste of the Seasons cooking competition.
