Classic Club to Host Elite Collegiate Field at 10th Annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

Some of the nations best NCAA Division I mens golf teams will descend on Palm Desert this weekend as the University of Wyoming partners with Troon Golf and Classic Club to host the 10th annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The three-day tournament will take place Feb. 16-18, as host Wyoming welcomes No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 15 California and No. 21 UCLA, among others, to Palm Desert. No. 2 Oklahoma State will send four individual players to compete in the tournament.

Additional participating teams currently ranked in the Golfstat.com top 40 are No. 28 Tennessee, No. 36 Kansas and No. 40 TCU. The Jayhawks and Horned Frogs have previously claimed the team title at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, as Kansas was victorious in 2016 while TCU won in 2015 and 2013. Oregon claimed the team and individual titles last season. Ducks Norman Xiong and Wyndham Clark tied for top honors in the individual standings at 211 (-5), while Oregon carded a 54-hole score of 838 (-26) to beat Colorado by nine strokes in the team standings.

Brun holds the low individual tournament record, scoring a 203 (-13) in 2014. TCU also set the low team tournament record that year with an 837 (-27). The lowest individual round in tournament history came last year, when Colorados Jeremy Paul carded a 64 (-8) in the second round to help the Buffaloes to a tournament single-round record score of 266 (-22).

Five of the nations top 50 players in the nation, per Golfstat.com, will be competing in the tournament this weekend. TCU junior Stefano Mazzoli currently holds a scoring average of 69.73, which ranks No. 20 among NCAA Division I mens golfers. California junior Collin Morikawa is ranked 28th at 69.87, while junior John Murdock of host Wyoming is ranked one spot behind Morikawa with the same scoring average. Texas Tech senior Fredrik Nilehn is 31st at 69.92, while Boise State sophomore Brian Humphreys ranks 44th at 70.33.

The tournament will feature a double-tee start at 7 a.m. PT for each of the three days, as golfers will tee off on the 408-yard, par-four Hole No. 1 and the 474-yard, par-four Hole No. 10. Follow along with live results on Golfstat.com.
