Club Honored at the Spring 2008 Golf Inc. Conference in Miami

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Dismal River Club, a private golf club featuring a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in the Sandhills region of Nebraska, recently received runner-up honors in the Private Club division of Golf Inc. magazine's 2007 "DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR" competition.

Golf courses were rated on how successfully the development team fulfilled its vision, course routing, and the course's aesthetics and amenities. First place in the Private Club division was awarded to Vellano Country Club in Chino Hills, Calif. Other finalists included The Creek Club at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga., Whispering Oak at Verandah in Fort Meyers, Fla., and The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas.

Nominating Dismal River Club for this competition was the club's building and housing designer Brian Curtis, owner of BC Studio Design located in Phoenix, Ariz. Co-owners Don and Nancy Bouc received the award on the club's behalf at the Spring 2008 Golf Inc. Conference in Miami on April 21.

"We are so proud to receive this award on behalf of Dismal River Club. This is a unique club that offers an amazing experience for those who have a passion for the game of golf," said Don Bouc.

Dismal River Club, which also ranked in Golfweek's "BEST NEW COURSES" list in 2007, offers the purest form of links-style golf. The design is one that truly reflects Nicklaus' philosophy of creating courses that blend with the native elements of their surroundings. Dismal River also features elevated tees that provide panoramic views of the Dismal River Valley, once home to thousands of roaming bison. The course's rustic charm is defined by its windswept bunkers, natural contours and ruggedly beautiful terrain.

"The experience of arriving at the Dismal River site was like stepping back in time and seeing what the dunes of Northeast Scotland must have looked like a hundred years ago," said Jack Nicklaus, reflecting on the club's unique surroundings. "In every direction I looked, I saw great golf holes."

Dismal River Club also boasts an expansive clubhouse constructed of warm-colored woods. Its high ceilings present spacious areas for its golf shop, poker and pool rooms, theater, saloon and horseshoe pits. Upscale dining can also be enjoyed at the clubhouse with a menu featuring fine steaks, fresh seafood and wild game. Accommodations include luxurious cabins reminiscent of the lodges built by pioneers who once inhabited the valley. Staying in a cabin is considered far from "roughing it." The cabin's amenities include down pillows, king-sized beds, large-screen plasma TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi and mini-bars.
