Rees Jones Returns to Restore His Original Design

Scottsdale, Arizona - Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that the golf course renovation at Haig Point, located on Daufuskie Island, S.C., is in full swing. Rees Jones, the original course architect, has returned to restore the highly acclaimed Signature Course to its former prominence in the golf world and to bring it into the 21st century.

Renovation on the 20-hole Signature Course began in mid February and is expected to be completed in November. Jones' plan is not to completely reconfigure the course, which has appeared several times on Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Courses" list, but to make improvements on what's already in place. These improvements include, restoring the greens to their original size and contour, adding more tee placements, improving bunker positioning, enhancing shot values and improving overall playability. Jones plans on using the natural lay of the land to dictate design features and restore the course to its original grandeur.

"The renovation that's underway at Haig Point gives a clear direction to the bright future that awaits the golf course and the community," stated Rick Layton, general manager of Haig Point. "The improvements, combined with excellent customer service and unparalleled playing surfaces, will ensure a world-class experience for our members and guests."

Over the next four years, Haig Point will undergo several renovations that include the $5 million golf course renovation; $2.6 million upgrade to its ferry system; and $2.35 million on a new beach club called The Calibogue Club, a world-class oceanfront dining facility, boasting incredible views of The Calibogue Sound and Harbour Town. Additionally, $2 million has been allocated to upgrade the technology, the buildings and the roads at Haig Point, also improving the docks at both Hilton Head Island and Daufuskie Island.

The essential character of Haig Point is that of an environmentally sensitive, architecturally distinguished, un-crowded community, which will not be compromised during renovation. The planned improvements will contribute to current Real estate offerings that range from charming cottages to villas to estate homes, offering something for everyone. The extra-large home sites provide an extraordinary choice of views - the broad Atlantic, the Calibogue Sound, the ever-changing seascapes of the surrounding saltwater marshes, or the soothing landscapes of manicured golf fairways and greens. Haig Point offers the ultimate in privacy, security and enjoyable everyday living, for those thinking about retirement or simply a second home.
