Troon Golf's UK Portfolio Makes Strong Showing -- Ailsa at The Westin Turnberry Resort Named Number One

Scottsdale, Ariz - Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to congratulate its portfolio of managed courses in Great Britain for being recognized by Golf World UK and their biennial list of the "Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses in Great Britain and Ireland."

According to the editors, "Our biennial ranking has established itself over the past 20 years as the definitive guide to the finest courses in Great Britain and Ireland. After months of deliberation, our prestigious panel of judges has looked at literally hundreds of courses; and taken into account recent alterations that several courses have made. In our constant quest to improve the ranking, we have added a second 100 this year…[and] there is a new number one, which becomes only the third course ever to reach the summit."

Named the number one golf course in Great Britain and Ireland is the Ailsa at The Westin Turnberry Resort. The site of the 2009 British Open, Ailsa was lauded not only for quality in its design, but also for its incomparable aesthetics. "The Ailsa course at Turnberry has both history and quality in its design; but it looks elsewhere to score points. Of all the great links on our islands, there is none more dramatic or breathtaking, or stunningly beautiful," stated the panel.

Making its debut on the list is The Grove, which came in at No. 89. The panel said: "No members, no stuffiness, no silly dress codes, a genuinely warm welcome, superb service, magnificent practice facilities, a chic hotel and a brilliant parkland course that opened just three years ago and will host the Top 50 golfers in the world [this coming September]."

Named No. 21 on the list of the "second 100" is Bearwood Lakes Golf Club in Berkshire, England. A Martin Hawtree design, Bearwood Lakes is an oasis of calm and beauty set in the midst of one of the most commercially vibrant areas of Europe. With a backdrop of mature oak, lime and beech and surrounded by Scots pine, it's undulating terrain rolls along the banks of Bearwood Lake, with dramatic views of the whole Bearwood Estate.
