GOLFWEEK NAMES BEST COURSES FOR 2012

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that 19 of its managed properties have been named to the 2012 “Golfweek’s Best Courses” list. The accolades are comprised of the best resort and residential golf courses, along with the best courses located in the Caribbean and Mexico, and the best new courses as well.

Notable rankings on the “Top 100 Resort Courses” list include Silverado Resort and Spa in California, which made the list for the first time after opening the Johnny Miller re-designed North course, as well as Southern Dunes Golf Club in Arizona, which jumped an impressive 30 spots from last year to No. 60 on the current list. The “Best Residential Courses” list saw Quintero Golf Club in Arizona, Red Ledges Golf Club in Utah, and Black Creek Club in Tennessee, all improve their positions as well.

Among the criteria used by Golfweek’s panel of course raters include:

Ease and intimacy of routing – The extent to which the sequence of holes follows natural contours and unfolds in an unforced manner.
Variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s – Different clubs hit; extent to which the angles of play create interesting and varied playing options; and extent to which holes offer variety of options from the tee and on the second shot.
Basic quality of conditioning – Variety of playing textures; extent of turf coverage; consistency and quality of bunker sand.
“Walk in the park” test – Degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on.
