HAIG POINT IV MAKES MAIDEN LANDING AT HAIG POINT

Posted on December 04, 2007
Daufuskie Island, S.C .- On November 16, 2007, Haig Point IV, a new 55' ferry, joined the fleet of seven boats that provide residents of Haig Point with transportation from Hilton Head Island to Daufuskie Island. Haig Point is a private club and community managed by Troon Golf ® on Daufuskie Island, S.C. and is only accessible by boat. Transportation at Haig Point is by golf cart and bicycle. By water, Daufuskie is about 45 minutes from Savannah.

The $1.6 million ferry, which can carry up to 100 passengers, was built by Breaux Brothers Enterprises out of Loreauville, La., the company that fashioned ferries Haig Point I and Haig Point II when the community began operation in 1986. Haig Point IV made its way from Louisiana bayou country, around the Florida Keys, and up the east coast of Florida to Savannah in about two weeks.

The introduction of Haig Point IV into the community's fleet was part of a week-long celebration that included the reopening of the community's 20-hole Rees Jones signature golf course, which has consistently been on the list of top 100 courses in the U.S.. Jones, the world-renowned golf course architect, spent 10 months renovating the course that he happily admits brought his career to a "whole new level."

Mark Nordman, general manager of the community, said the introduction of Haig Point IV into the community's fleet will provide the kind of experience members of Haig Point should have when making the 25 minute ferry ride. New features include larger windows, wireless technology, more personalized seating, satellite television and a larger storage area.

"Haig Point IV provides the type of luxury our members appreciate and should expect," Nordman said. With the introduction of Haig Point IV, the two other ferries will be able to be reconditioned to meet the new standards set by Haig Point IV.
