Rees Jones' Committed to Build Upon Course's Reputation

Daufuskie Island, S.C. - Haig Point, one of South Carolina's most exclusive golf course communities, is excited to announce that it has been recognized as one of "America's Best Courses" by Golfweek magazine in the "Top 100 Residential Courses" category. Proven to be held in the utmost regard by highly respected golf critics, admiration for Haig Point is sure to only increase. Rees Jones, the original course architect, has begun his renovation of the widely acclaimed Signature Course, to assure the continuation of its long-lived prominence.

Renovation began in mid February and is expected to be complete in November. Jones' plan is not to completely redesign the course, which has also appeared several times on Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Courses" list, but to make improvements on what's already in place. The renovation includes, restoring the greens to their original size and contour, adding more tee placements, improving bunker positioning, enhancing shot values and improving overall playability.

"It is an honor to be recognized by this leading golf publication," stated Jim Lawrence, director of golf at Haig Point. "We are confident that the renovations underway will elevate the quality of this golf course to a new level and position it even higher on the lists of America's best."

Golfweek's list of "America's Best Courses" was comprised of resort, residential, and daily-fee facilities. Additional categories include, top modern, classic and resort courses, as well as a state-by-state ranking.

Among the criteria used by Golfweek's panel of course raters include:

Ease and intimacy of routing - The extent to which the sequence of holes follows natural contours and unfolds in an unforced manner. Variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s - Different clubs hit; extent to which the angles of play create interesting and varied playing options; and extent to which holes offer variety of options from the tee and on the second shot.

Basic quality of conditioning - Variety of playing textures; extent of turf coverage; consistency and quality of bunker sand. "Walk in the park" test - Degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on.
