Development in the Algarve Region of Portugal to be one of the Leading Golf Resorts in Europe

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce the following staff appointments at Monte Rei Golf & Country Club on the southern coast of Portugal.

Taking the helm as general manager of the club is Thomas Rubi. Positions in Western Europe, Africa and North America have contributed to Rubi's career -- spanning the globe with close to 20 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry. Most recently he held the position of club director at The Glacier Club in Durango, Colorado, a private, luxury 27-hole golf community. Prior to that, Rubi held management positions with leading luxury hospitality groups including Joie de Vivre Hospitality, Inc. in San Francisco and Serena Hotels in East Africa. His thorough knowledge of the luxury resort hospitality and tourism industries are invaluable as Monte Rei begins to establish itself as one of the leading exclusive golf properties in Europe.

Named director of golf, Wayne Johnson's qualification as an instructor is unquestionable, having spent the last four years as director of instruction at The Academy by Troon Golf at The Montgomerie Dubai, and before that, four years working as director of instruction at The Butch Harmon Schools of Golf in the United States and Caribbean. Having worked closely with Butch Harmon, familiarizing himself with his philosophy and teaching style, Wayne assisted Butch in many of his coaching sessions with such notable tournament professionals as Tiger Woods, Darren Clarke, Jose Maria Olazabal and Adam Scott. A member of The Professional Golfer's Association of Great Britain & Ireland, Wayne has worked at a number of prestigious golf clubs & resorts throughout Europe and the United States.

Situated in the unspoiled Eastern Algarve, between Vila Real de Santo Antonio and Tavira, Monte Rei Golf & Country Club encompasses over 1,000 acres of countryside on the southern coast of Portugal and is sure to be one of the premiere golf resorts in Europe. The low density and exceptionally high quality of design and construction will add to the exclusivity of the resort. Within this very special environment there are three different categories of villas available, from detached luxury residences built within the golf course, to three and four bedroom villas situated within their own "O Miradouro" Village with its own clubhouse. Additionally, the resort will develop a luxury hotel and spa village, shopping center and beach club.

Two 18-hole championship courses are planned at Monte Rei Golf & Country Club. Scheduled to be open for preview play in Fall 2006, the first is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course located on the north end of the development. The course will feature five lakes, bordered by indigenous trees and plants, and will offer players breathtaking views of the sea against a backdrop of the dramatic Serra do Caldierao mountains. The second course, which will also be of championship level, will be constructed on the southern end of the development upon completion of the first. Additionally, the club will feature a state-of-the-art practice facility and world-class driving range. There will also be a magnificent Clubhouse, of approximately 4,000 sq. m., which will offer outstanding amenities and an exclusive "members club" floor.
