NEW OWNERSHIP AT SOUTHERN DUNES GOLF CLUB MEANS EXCITING NEW CHANGES

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce several exciting new developments at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Arizona, which was recently purchased by the Ak-Chin Indian Community.

Recently named to Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 You Can Play” list, the facility is now known as Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The course sits on 320 acres of land that was once a part of the Ak-Chin’s original reservation before it was taken away in 1913. Nearly 100 years later, the community is happy to recover its sacred land and plans to raise the experience at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club to new heights.

Troon Golf will continue to manage the property, which will undergo several improvements that include an expanded clubhouse with additional dining options, new landscaping featuring a grand entrance, and an overall emphasis on elevating course conditions.

“This is truly a special time in the history of both Southern Dunes and the Ak-Chin Community,” stated Hud Hinton, president and CEO, Troon Golf. “We are looking forward to the exciting enhancements in store for the property, as we continue to deliver an incomparable experience at one of the top courses in Arizona.”

The Ak-Chin Indian Community, which owns the nearby Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort, is bringing together championship-style golf and world-class gaming in a partnership that will include a new five-story resort tower. Currently under construction, the project will double the room capacity currently at Ak-Chin’s casino and is expected to open in the summer of 2011. Gaming and golf packages will be available through the resort, creating a truly exciting and multi-faceted destination pleasing to a wide range of visitors.

“The acquisition of Southern Dunes provides the reclaiming of lands once ours but was taken away,” stated Louis Manuel, Tribal Council Chairman for the Ak-Chin Indian Community. “The value of the land alone presents a strong sense of pride for us and the value of the golf course introduces economic diversity for sustained self sufficiency for the Ak-Chin Indian Community. Troon Golf defines a driving force to reach attainable expectations for the property and we hope all who experience Southern Dunes will take with them everlasting memories of a golf course, a purpose and a people.”

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club was designed to offer a unique playing opportunity to test players of all levels of expertise. Built in 2002, this Fred Couples and Schmidt-Curley-designed golf course was created in the tradition of some of the world’s most coveted courses. AK-Chin Southern Dunes’ focus is on providing its guests with the finest playing surfaces and the ultimate challenge for their game. The course is spread over nearly twice the land of a typical golf course, which has been transformed from flat terrain into a magnificent landscape that is a visual departure from the desert golf layouts typical of the area. Ak-Chin Southern Dunes offers an ideal experience for those who are seeking a relaxed and welcoming environment and are serious and passionate about the game.
