Ironwood Course At Anthem Country Club Receives Honorable Mention

Scottsdale, Ariz - Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that The Quarry at Giants Ridge has been named Golf Development of the Year by Crittenden, the publisher of Golf Inc. magazine. The facility took home the prize in the following category: public facility that cost under $5 million for course construction. A Troon Golf-managed course, the Quarry opened on July 01, 2003 to much acclaim, and has redefined golf in the Midwest.

Sculpted in equal parts from the north woods and reclaimed mine lands, The Quarry at Giants Ridge is a Minnesota resort course with a style all its own. Dramatically raised tees and deep hazards forges from mine lands, wetlands, forests and a former sand quarry challenge players to dig deeper, see farther and risk more. A par 72 and walk-able 7,000 yards from the back tees, The Quarry honors the regions industrial past in a unique and culturally significant way. Each hole is named for area mines, past and current—from home four, which commemorates the giant Mahoning mines that produced more than 130 million tons of Iron, to hole 18, named for the Embarrass mine, which today is a 550-deep mine-pit lake, the deepest on the Mesabi Iron Range. Serenity and magnificence have earned The Quarry much acclaim.

The Ironwood course at Anthem Country Club in Phoenix opened for play in January 2004 and received honorable mention in the following category: Private facility that cost under $5 million for course construction. Designed by Greg Nash & Associates, this 7,247 yard, par 72 course features large, undulating greens; dramatic elevation changes; deep canyon washes; rolling fairways, and multiple tee boxes. Additionally, the Ironwood's classic risk-rewards layout, sweeping views and the challenge presented by seven water holes all contribute to making this course a much talked-about addition to the Phoenix marketplace.

"Congratulations to both of these stand-out properties," stated Troon Golf President and Chief Operating Officer, Hud Hinton, "We are thrilled to have them recognized by Crittenden and applaud our associates at both facilities for consistently delivering the TROON GOLF EXPERIENCE.sm"

Judging for the award was based on a combination of three factors:

1. Vision: Does the project realize the vision of the development team? Do all aspects of design and construction mesh with the goal of the developer? How well does the development utilize the allotted budget?
2. Course routing: Do the holes flow logically and smoothly? Does the project reflect the most efficient use of the land?
3. Course aesthetics: Is the course visually appealing? How well does the design blend with the surrounding area?
