The Sagamore Club Also Tops Golf Digest's America's Best New Courses List

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is thrilled to announce that Golf Digest has named The Quarry at Giants Ridge, Biwabik, Minnesota, the "Best New Upscale Public Course" in its January 2005 issue, currently on newsstands. "The Quarry succeeds on many levels. It's a crowd-pleasing destination, an outstanding piece of land reclamation, and most important, a brilliant architectural declaration about where the game, and golf design, ought to be headed in the future," says Ron Whitten, Golf Digest Architecture Editor and overseer of the rankings.

Additionally, The Sagamore Club, located in Indianapolis, Indiana and a member of Troon Golf's Privé division, has been recognized by the publication as one of "America's Best New Private Courses."

Sculpted in equal parts from the north woods and reclaimed mine lands, The Quarry at Giants Ridge, a Jeff Brauer design, is a Minnesota resort course with a style all its own. Dramatically raised tees and deep hazards forged from mine lands, wetlands, forests and a former sand quarry challenge players to dig deeper, see farther and risk more. A par 72 and walk-able 7,000 yards from the back tees, The Quarry honors the region's industrial past in a unique and culturally significant way. Each hole is named for area mines, past and current—from hole four, which commemorates the giant Mahoning mines that produced more than 130 million tons of iron, to hole 18, named for the Embarrass mine, which today is a 550 ft.-deep mine-pit lake, the deepest on the Mesabi Iron Range. Serenity and magnificence have earned The Quarry much acclaim.

The Sagamore Club, a par 72, 7,173 Jack Nicklaus Signature course stretches through rolling, wooded terrain on the north side of Indianapolis in Hamilton County. This tranquil yet challenging golf course heralds a new era of Indiana golf in a manner reflective of the masterworks of golf's most distinguished course designers.

"We congratulate both of these fine facilities on this prestigious recognition," stated Troon Golf President and COO Hud Hinton, "and thank them for their efforts to provide the best possible golf experience to all who visit."

According to Golf Digest, nearly 150 new golf courses nationwide were nominated for this year's ranking. The publication's panel of 800 low-handicap male and female golfers played and evaluated (at their own expense) courses that were nominated (those that opened between May 1, 2003 and April 30, 2004). Golf courses were rated on shot values, design variety, memorability, resistance to scoring and aesthetics. The average scores for each criterion were combined and totaled to determine the winners.
