Dubai Sports City Will Feature Ernie El's Signature Golf Course and The Butch Harmon Golf Academy, Operated by Troon Golf

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Troon Golf,® the world leader in upscale golf management, development, and marketing, will oversee the construction and manage operations for the 18-hole Ernie Els' Signature Golf Course and The Butch Harmon Golf Academy, operated by Troon Golf. The golf facility is a component of the new extensive development in the United Arab Emirates called Dubai Sports City, a sprawling 50 million square-foot multi-sports complex.

"We are delighted with our appointment of Troon Golf to offer their project management services and golf operations for Dubai Sports City, including the design and construction of the facilities. We chose Troon Golf for their international profile and experience in this region," stated Dubai Sports City President, Khalid Alzarooni. "Dubai Sports City will showcase the most exclusive sports arenas in the world from football to golf, and Troon was our natural choice to develop the luxurious level of golf and service we envision for Dubailand."

Dubai Sports City is part of the larger, awe-inspiring Dubailand — a 4-billion square-foot recreational community designed to showcase Dubai as the leisure, tourism, and entertainment capital of the Middle East. In addition to the sports complex, the entire project will include resorts, restaurants, upscale retail outlets, cinemas, and an array of other services and amenities that will ultimately comprise a township of its own.

"Troon Golf is extremely honored to be selected to assist in the creation and development of Dubai Sports City, truly one of the great sports complexes being built in the world today," stated Chris Roderick, Troon Golf Senior Vice President, International Acquisition & Development. "We are also proud to play a role in Ernie Els' first golf course design in the Middle East, as well as securing the world renowned golf instructor, Butch Harmon, for the inaugural Butch Harmon Golf Academy outside the United States. Our aim is to further enhance Dubai's reputation as one of the world's fastest growing golf destinations."

The golf complex will serve as the centerpiece within an upscale residential golf community, with construction scheduled to begin April 2004. "I was so impressed with the developer's vision for this project, that getting involved was not only an easy decision for me to make, but an honor to be selected," stated Ernie Els, President for Ernie Els Designs, Ltd. "This is my first design project in the region and I am confident that this entire project will help establish a new standard for sports, not only in Dubai, but also throughout the Middle East."

The Butch Harmon Golf Academy marks the organization's first international expansion since its inception in 1990. Generally hailed as the world's number one golf instructor, Harmon has been recognized for his work over the years with Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Darren Clarke, and a host of other PGA and LPGA Tour professionals. The Butch Harmon Golf Academy at Dubai Sports City employs Harmon's unique and highly personalized teaching philosophy that dates back to his legendary father, Claude Harmon, and further honed by his family of instructors and professional associates.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to develop the golf instruction facility for Dubai Sports City and to work alongside Troon Golf to ensure a seamless operation," stated Harmon. "We hope to create the best world-class practice and learning facility in the Middle East for golfers of every skill level seeking individual advancement in their game."

In addition to golf, Dubai Sports City will feature separate stadiums capable of staging international competitions for cricket, rugby, football, and field and track. Two indoor sports arenas will accommodate basketball, tennis, handball, and volleyball, and also serve as concert and entertainment venues. The complex will also be home to the highly acclaimed Manchester United Soccer School and the David Lloyd Academies, a well-known premier health and fitness club operator, will feature a tennis facility and leisure spa.

Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon Golf manages operations at more than 140 courses located in 23 states and 12 countries. Additionally, 28 Troon Golf facilities enjoy a Top 100 ranking by national or international publications. Troon Golf properties include The Westin Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire, Scotland; Talking Stick Golf Club, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Maderas Golf Club, San Diego, Calif.; Lake of Isles Golf Club, North Stonington, Conn.; Vista Ridge Golf Club, Erie, Colo.; Kooindah Golf & Country Club, New South Wales, Australia; and Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, Berkshire, England.
