Jack Nicklaus Christens His Signature Design in Indianapolis

Scottsdale, Ariz. - On August 19, 2003, Jack Nicklaus christened his own design, the brand new signature golf course at The Sagamore Club and the focal point of the new residential community in Indianapolis. The Golden Bear, winner of 18 major championships and designer of more than 200 golf courses, showcased his talent to members and guests that has titled him arguably the best golfer to ever play the game.

The outing, "A Walk with Jack," marked the official opening of the club. Members and guests walked with Jack while he played 18 holes from 7,173 yards, identifying on each hole the feature that defined its shape and strategy as well as offering unsolicited advice on course management. He was genuinely impressed with the greens saying, "I know a lot of courses that would die for greens like these, I don't know of any that wouldn't."

Located north of Indianapolis, the sedate and challenging Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course heralds a new era of golf in the manner of golf's oldest and most respected course designers. Golf course design enthusiasts often cite Nicklaus' mid-western golf courses as the best examples of his talent as an architect. The rolling terrain, lakes, woods, and streams on this site are ideally suited to produce the variety of holes that are inherent in a great golf course capable of hosting major events, as well as serving the membership with a continually exciting venue.

"Troon Golf is extremely honored to be associated with a golf club so dedicated to preserving the great traditions of the game for future generations," stated Troon Golf Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dana Garmany. "I speak for all our Troon Golf associates at The Sagamore Club when I say we take great pride in offering its members a new premiere-level club experience that elevates golf in this area to a breathtaking level."
