New Golf Course Development Takes Ixtapan de la Sal to a New Level

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - As Mexico continues to realize its greater potential for world-class international tourism, many of the country's major real estate developers are insisting on extraordinary golf facilities with superior course conditioning and maintenance, luxurious amenities, and outstanding customer service.

Catching the wave of the upscale golf resort lifestyle, the developers of Ixtapan Country Club, Resort & SPA recently hired Troon Golf®, the world leader in management, development and marketing of luxury brand golf courses, to oversee all golf operations for the new resort and residential community in Ixtapan de la Sal, 65 miles southwest of Mexico City (not to be confused with the beach resort of Ixtapa).

In the 1940s, Señor Arturo San Roman created Hotel Spa Ixtapan, Mexico's first old world style SPA built on natural mineral hot springs once enjoyed by Aztec kings. Building on the family legacy, grandson Ricardo San Roman is capitalizing on Mexico's growing interest in luxury golf facilities by building a stunning 7,200-yard, 18-hole golf course designed by Sechrest Golf to meld with the semitropical beauty in the hills of Ixtapan de la Sal.

"We contracted Troon Golf to help us create a highly refined golf experience to complement our vision of what we are calling ‘The Promised Land,'" said San Roman, CEO of the Ixtapan Country Club development. "We were impressed by the company's international reputation for exacting practices that ensure high standards and quality service. We are pleased to include the Troon Golf brand in the new experience at Ixtapan de la Sal."

Scheduled to open in the Fall of 2001, the golf course is the focal point of the 700-home country club community that includes a SPA facility of its own.

"We are pleased that the San Roman family has chosen the ‘Troon Golf Experience' to help further their time-honored tradition of offering an exclusive setting for rejuvenation and recreation," said Dana Garmany, Troon Golf Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "The Ixtapan Country Club, Resort & SPA is certain of becoming recognized for its elegance and international prestige."

With its high standards and level of excellence demonstrated globally throughout the United States, Mexico, Scotland, Australia, and Japan, Troon Golf creates extraordinary experiences at many of the world's finest golf facilities by adhering to superior agronomic practices and providing championship-level playing conditions and exceptional customer service.

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon Golf manages over 70 golf courses in 14 states and 8 countries. Troon Golf facilities include Turnberry Hotel, Golf Courses & Spa, Ayrshire, Scotland; Troon North Golf Club, Scottsdale, Arizona; The Ridge at Castle Pines North, Castle Rock, Colorado; Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort, Galena, Illinois; and The Westin Innisbrook Resort, Tampa Bay, Florida.
