New Partnership Aimed at Raising Standards of Golf in Mexico

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Troon Golf, a recognized leader in management, development and marketing of luxury brand golf courses, has been hired to manage the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol, an 18-hole Nicklaus-designed layout in Los Cabos, Mexico, announced project owners, ICA and The Day Group.

"We are confident that Troon's management experience and success with world-class golf resorts will be a great asset to the positioning of Cabo del Sol," agreed Saturnino Suarez, Vice President of ICA and Jonathan Jaffrey of the Los Angeles-based Day Group, equal partners in the 1800-acre master-planned residential community. "Troon's proven sales and marketing approach will enable us to expand our reach and continue to attract the world's most discerning golfers and second home buyers."

The Day Group acquired the 50% general partnership in Cabo del Sol from Koll Resorts International, Newport Beach, Calif., in January 2000. The Day Group shares the ownership of the development with ICA, Mexico's largest engineering, procurement and construction company, a 50% partner in Cabo del Sol since 1992. During the next 18 months, the project owners plan to invest approximately $25 million in the construction of a second golf course, golf clubhouse, residential lots and associated infrastructure.

Open since 1994, The Ocean Course ranks among the "Top 100 Golf Course in the World", according to Golf Magazine and is voted one of the "Top 10 Public Courses" by Golf Digest's reader's poll. Commonly referred to as the "Pebble Beach of Baja", the course features seven holes on the water with unparalleled views of ocean, mountain and desert terrain. Construction of the Tom Weiskopf course, the second of three golf courses planned for Cabo del Sol, is scheduled to break ground this summer and open in late 2001.

"We are proud to partner with The Day Group and ICA and are anxious to play a major role in positioning Cabo del Sol as one of the most prestigious golf and residential communities in the world," said Troon Golf Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dana Garmany. "We believe our loyal customer will enjoy the ability to ‘Experience Troon Golf' in Mexico."

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon Golf has over 60 management and development contracts in 13 states and 7 countries. Troon Golf facilities include Turnberry Hotel Golf Courses & Spa, A Westin Resort, Ayshire, Scotland; Troon North Golf Club, Scottsdale, Arizona; Waikoloa Beach Resort, Kohala Coast, Hawaii; Ocean Club, Paradise Island, Bahamas; The Ridge at Castle Pines North, Castle Rock, Colorado; and Eagle Ridge Inn & Resort, Galena, Illinois.

Cabo del Sol is currently the site of two luxury oceanfront hotels - the Fiesta Americana Grand and Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Spa and Resort. Upon completion, Cabo del Sol will include four championship golf courses, four hotels, 1,700 residential units, tournament tennis facilities, a village center, and an urgent care facility.
