In Anaconda, Montana, The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is Part of the History

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The world renown "Troon Golf Experience" is now in play in Big Sky Country as Troon Golf®, the recognized world leader in golf course management, development and marketing, assumes the management of the much revered Old Works in Anaconda, Montana. This truly unique Jack Nicklaus Signature course is the golfer's gateway to this mountainous recreation community, rich in its history and natural wonder of the state's Pintler Primitive Area.

On land once owned by the ARCO Company, the golf course was built over the slag remains of the old copper smelter and eventually turned over to the City of Anaconda as part of a settlement to reclaim the mining site. Old Works is the result of a visionary partnership between state and federal agencies and was the first-ever golf facility built on a Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund site.

Historic and notable mining relics along the golf course were carefully preserved during construction, and ebony ground slag was used in the bunkers instead of sand. Massive granite slabs from the mill now line the banks of Warm Springs Creek as it runs through the property, and the ominous stone furnaces border the third fairway. The 150-foot tall flue rises dramatically behind the fourth green, and many of the other holes are named for prominent features of the mine and its landscape that make Old Works a truly original golf experience.

"Old Works is indeed a very special golf facility in a very special environment. The notoriety it has received is proof of this," said Steve Braley, Vice President, Golf Development and Operations, Golden Bear Club Services. "It is only fitting that Troon Golf, the world leader in upscale golf course management, oversee a property of this nature."

Old Works ranks among Montana's top golf courses, made notable by its challenge and playability in a spectacular setting. "We are very excited to be involved with a golf facility as original as Old Works and with a community as warm and welcoming as Anaconda," said John Easterbrook, Jr., Troon Golf Executive Vice President, Operations. "We take great pleasure in bringing a new level of play to golfers in this part of the country. Our aim is to operate Old Works as another one of the outstanding attractions in this area and do our part to build on the momentum Anaconda enjoys as a tourist destination."

With its high standards and level of excellence demonstrated globally, Troon Golf creates extraordinary experiences at many of the world's finest golf facilities by providing superior agronomy and playing conditions and exceptional customer service.

"We are proud to partner with this dynamic and visionary community," said Troon Golf Chairman and CEO, Dana Garmany. "We appreciate this opportunity to introduce our company to the business and resort communities surrounding Anaconda."
