TROON TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL HEALTHY LUNCH DAY ON NOVEMBER 15th

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon®, the leader in golf course management, development, and marketing, is proud to join with the American Diabetes Association to celebrate National Healthy Lunch Day in conjunction with the TroonFIT wellness initiative on Tuesday, November 15th. The engagement day highlights the importance of good nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle and encourages and motivates people to commit to eating a healthy lunch today and every day.

“There is tremendous confusion about what to eat, that is, what is healthy and what is not,” said John Bartilomo, vice president of food & beverage, Troon. “Often the food choices people make are full of calories, yet lack nutritional value, which contributes to rising rates of diabetes, heart disease and obesity-related illnesses nationwide. National Healthy Lunch Day will help us inform and empower our members, guests and associates to make healthier food choices. It’s as simple as looking for the TroonFIT items on our restaurant menus.”

Troon-managed restaurants and dining venues offer TroonFIT menu items or heart/healthy menu items. To celebrate National Healthy Lunch Day, guests dining at Troon locations will be encouraged to order TroonFIT items that provide healthy options. TroonFIT menu items meet the following guidelines:

  • Calories – 500 calories or less per menu item (plate)
  • Total Fat – 3 grams or less total fat per 100 grams, 30 percent or less calories from total fat in the menu item, and 26 grams or less total fat per the entire plate
  • Saturated Fat – 1 gram or less saturated fat per 100 grams, less than 10 percent calories from saturated fat in the menu item, and 5 grams or less saturated fat for the entire plate
  • Cholesterol – 20 milligrams or less cholesterol per 100 grams and 105 milligrams or less cholesterol per the entire plate
  • Trans Fat – Less than 0.5 grams trans fat per the entire plate
  • Sodium – 800 milligrams or less sodium per the entire plate
  • Beneficial Nutrient – Minimum 10 percent or more of the Daily Value of one of the following nutrients per the entire plate: vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, dietary fiber, or protein

Additionally, Troon is distributing National Healthy lunch educational materials to the 10,000+ Troon associates around the globe to create greater awareness for healthy lunch options and recipes that contribute to the TroonFIT lifestyle of health and wellness.

“Since our founding more than 75 years ago, the American Diabetes Association has championed the importance of healthy lifestyle choices as an important way to manage and prevent diabetes,” said Alicia H. McAuliffe-Fogarty, PhD, CPsychol, vice president, lifestyle management, American Diabetes Association. “Through National Healthy Lunch Day, the Association calls on all Americans, including people with diabetes, to commit to making a healthy lunch part of their daily routine, whether it’s bringing a healthy brown bag lunch or choosing wisely while eating out. We are pleased that Troon has joined our efforts.”
