The Best Keeps Getting Better… Troon North Golf Club’s Award Winning Monument Course Re-opens After

Posted on October 16, 2017
We were please to unveil work of Troon’s Design/Development team and Troon North’s agronomic teams efforts with our unveiling of Monument Course on October 7th, following a four-month enhancement project. Yes a favorite of many local and traveling golfers (the Tom Weiskopf Monument course), just got better. We completed extensive course enhancements that included updating green complexes to their original shape, size and contours by utilizing GPS coordinates gathered from Weiskopf’s original design. In addition, greens were resurfaced with creeping A4 bent grass and collars were resurfaced with TifGrand semi-dwarf Bermuda grass. Bunker renovations included updating the drainage in all greenside and fairway bunkers, new bunker liners and new Pioneer bunker sand. Troon’s Vice President of Golf Course Development Ron Despain oversaw the project and work was performed by the club’s agronomy team led by Senior Agronomist Brad Anderson.

“The green and bunker changes on Monument have further elevated an already tremendous golf course,” said Mitch Harrell, president, Troon Golf. “By proactively improving and reinvesting, we are wholly committed to maintaining Troon North’s standing as one of the top daily-fee facilities in the world. To that end, we will be executing a similar improvement project on the Pinnacle course during the summer of 2018.”

The recent Monument course enhancements were the first major changes to the award-winning course since a 2007 renovation, reconfiguration and rerouting. In 2007, under Weiskopf’s direction, the 36-hole facility was reconfigured by blending the two courses together and changing the sequence in which the holes were played.

Troon North’s Pinnacle and Monument courses are ranked #25 and #58 respectively on GOLF Magazine's prestigious ranking of the 2016/2017 "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the United States.” In addition, GOLF Magazine named Pinnacle the #1 golf course and Monument the #4 golf course in Arizona in their ranking of "Best Courses You Can Play in Arizona." Troon North is no stranger to awards and accolades as both courses have been recognized in numerous Top 100 and Best-in-State rankings by GOLF, Golf Digest and Golfweek since the facility opened in 1990.

Troon North Golf Club stands as a hallmark of the Scottsdale desert golf experience with two 18-hole courses stretching through the natural ravines and foothills in the shadows of Pinnacle Peak.  Giant granite boulders lie strewn across the rugged landscape of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, where Troon North Golf Club combines iconic golf with the visual sensation of desert landscape, providing a standard unmatched in the American Southwest.
