#TrendingAtTroon - Episode 26 (12/21/15)

Posted on December 21, 2015

This is Ricky back for another exciting episode of #TrendingAtTroon. We have a lot of things trending this week, so let's get started.

Remember that AGM award I told you that Maderas Golf Club won? Well, they are in good company, because Bear Trap Dunes, located in Ocean View, Delaware, has earned the 2015 Platinum Award from the Association of Golf Merchandisers and has been recognized as a top 100 golf shop in America 2 years in a row. Congratulations to the entire team at Bear Trap Dunes, and visit BearTrapDunes.com to learn more about this award winning facility.

Speaking of award winners, did you guys see this? Yocha Dehe Golf Club, a course that I have still yet to play, Rusty, just won the CGCOA Community Enviro Award. Over the last 3 years, this course has transitioned 45 acres of previously irrigated native areas stay with me to non-irrigated native grasses with a water savings equaling millions of gallons that they save annually. In addition, Yocha Dehe is using bio diesel in golf course maintenance carts, and sifts through every bit of garbage on the golf course to separate aluminum cans and plastic bottles for recycling. Keep up the great work, guys. Maybe I'll swing by, see what I did there, for a round in the near future. Rusty, I'm coming for you.

Look at this picture for a second. That is the second hole at Lofoten Links, located in Norway, and Frode Hov, CEO, commented on the second hole at Lofoten, saying, "The second hole at Lofoten Links is one of the rare places where breathtaking beauty of the setting and the daunting nature of the shot that's required combine to deliver one of the most captivating golf experiences in the world. Yeah I need to see this place. Visit LofotenLinks.no to learn more about this stunning facility.

Ryan Ratzlaff has been a volunteer at THE PLAYERS Championship for about 10 years now, give or take. Ryan has also battled lymphoma, and he got a surprise a few days ago from PGA TOUR player Jim Furyk. Check this out.

"Hello, y'all. What's your first name?"

"Laura."

"Today we are celebrating a special family; the Ratzlaff family. Theyve been an inspiration to everyone."

"It's really great knowing that other people can look up to me as, you know, not just as a kid with cancer, but, you know, someone who is stronger than that. Somebody that can raise other peoples' dreams and hopes up."

How neat is that? It looks like Ryan and his whole family is headed to Maui for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua. I've been to Kapalua, and I haven't been there for the Tournament of Champions, but yeah, it's an impressive facility. We are looking forward to this event, and it promises to have the strongest field to date. Ryan, have fun in Hawaii next month. Jim thanks for helping make dreams come true.

Welp, the 2015 Troon corporate championship is in the books. First off, we would like to thank the entire staff at Whirlwind Golf Club for providing an unforgettable day of golf. And it was an unforgettable day of golf. It was a little cold, but nevertheless. For the second year in a row, Jeff Polling pulled out the net division. We might have to check his handicap next year. There was a scorecard playoff in the gross division, but Dolf May topped Rich Carter to win that division. Man, I told you he was playing good. Me, well... I had 3 3 putts and a double on the last hole, but enough about me. I don't want to talk about that. Congratulations to Jeff and Dolf, and thanks again to the team at Whirlwind. I'm already looking forward to next year. I have a W in my mind, but I guess I need to work on my putting.

"We are the champions, my friend."
