Three Wyndham Properties in Arizona, California and Puerto Rico Tapped For Golf Course Management

DALLAS (October 5, 2000) - Wyndham International, Inc. (NYSE:WYN) announced today that it has chosen Troon Golf, the world leader in management, development and marketing of luxury brand golf courses, to manage golf operations at three of its resorts: The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Ariz., Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel, Calif., and the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort & Country Club in Las Croabas, P.R.

The company said that Troon would oversee all golf operations at the three resorts, with a focus on course maintenance, playing conditions and customer service. Each of the three Wyndham resorts features an award-winning course designed by a world-renowned golf architect. Troon manages 70 golf courses in the U.S. and internationally.

"Each of our highly distinctive destination resorts offers guests a magnificent experience, so it was important for us to choose a company to manage our golf operations that would be a comparable fit for us," said Fred J. Kleisner, president and chief executive officer of Wyndham International. "Troon Golf is a company known for superior agronomy, extraordinary playing conditions, and exceptional customer service. We believe they offer the perfect operations component to our championship golf courses. Troon has a commitment to exacting operations that makes them the foremost luxury brand in the golf industry."

"Now members and guests of these Wyndham resorts will enjoy the same extraordinary experiences that we create at many of the world's finest golf facilities. The requisite high level maintenance standards, championship playing conditions and attentive customer service that identifies a Troon Golf operation are now in play," said Dana Garmany, chairman and chief executive officer of Troon Golf.

Carmel Valley Ranch (Carmel, Calif.) Carmel Valley Ranch is a 1,700-acre estate in the hills of northern California's Monterey Peninsula, only minutes away from the famed beaches, shops, and galleries of Carmel-by-the Sea. But for golf enthusiasts, it is the Pete Dye-designed golf course that is the focal point of the community. Deemed a "must play" facility in the Monterey area and a GOLF Magazine Silver Medal Award Winner, Carmel Valley recently underwent an artful redesign by Dye to make the course more enjoyable for guests of varying skill levels. However, Dye's trademark railroad ties in the bunkers and bulkheads are still in place. Playing through forests along the Carmel River, the course now encompasses wider fairways, tamer bunkers, plus new water features to increase visual interest.

The Lodge at Ventana Canyon (Tucson, Ariz.) Set in the Sonoran desert foothills of Tucson's Santa Catalina Mountains, The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is a secluded and intimate hideaway featuring 50 guest suites and 36 holes of vintage desert-style golf designed by Tom Fazio. The facility earned GOLF Magazine's coveted Gold Medal Award and Condé Nast Traveler named it as one of America's top five golf resorts.

With tee boxes ingeniously notched into cliff sides, and fairways stretching through canyons and ravines, the bold and challenging Mountain and Canyon courses offer one of the best desert golf experiences in the Southwest. From the heralded par three, the third hole on the Mountain course to the waterfall on No. 18 Canyon, Fazio's incredible variation of holes call on golfers to balance strength with finesse.

Wyndham El Conquistador Resort & Country Club (Las Croabas, Puerto Rico) Set along the cliffs of Las Croabas overlooking the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort & Country Club exudes everyone's vision of tropical luxury. With four unique resort environments to choose from, guests of the Wyndham El Conquistador enjoy a Spanish colonial-style setting with rooms built directly into the side of a cliff, relaxing in the sumptuous Golden Door Spa and strolling the walkways of La Marina Village with its boutique shops, music, and art displays.

Only six years old, the golf course is a breathtaking Arthur Hills design that incorporates all the challenges from the natural terrain, featuring a 200-foot vertical shift in elevation from start to finish. Regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean, the golf course features dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., Troon Golf proudly manages over 70 golf courses in 14 states and eight countries. Troon Golf managed properties include: Troon North Golf Club, Scottsdale, Ariz.; The Ridge at Castle Pines North, Castle Rock, Colo.; Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Cabo del Sol, Los Cabos, Mexico.
