A Record-Setting Weekend At Yocha Dehe’s Troon Challenge Event

Oddly enough, “62” seemed to be the preferred number at Yocha Dehe Golf Club in California with a record number of 62 teams playing in the Troon Challenge event. First place honors in the Gross Division were earned by John Hayes & Dave Kowski with their score of 62. The father-son team of Brett & Chase Johnson advanced in the Net Division with a score of…you guessed it, 62 – which of course matches last year’s winning Net score of 62 shot by Gary Magana and Rich Gregson. Both teams would undoubtedly take a pair of 62s at the National Finals at Troon North Golf Club in August.

Talking Stick Golf Club in Arizona also hosted a successful Troon Challenge with results less peculiar than those at Yocha Dehe, but still exciting. In fact Peter Lugowski & Mike Kosolcharoen’s score of 66 was just enough to win by one stroke in the Gross Division, while the Net Division was decided by a scorecard playoff. As a result, Todd Ney & Timothy Randall will be representing Talking Stick at the National Finals in the Net Division.

The next Troon Challenge event will be held this weekend at Whirlwind Golf Club in Arizona. Entry forms and information on fees are still available for this event at www.TroonChallenge.com.

The Troon Challenge is a series of amateur golf tournaments held May through August at 15 Troon Golf courses in Arizona, California and Florida.
