A Record-Setting Weekend At Yocha Dehe’s Troon Challenge Event
Posted on June 16, 2010
Oddly enough, “62” seemed to be the preferred number at Yocha Dehe Golf Club in California with a record number of 62 teams playing in the Troon Challenge event. First place honors in the Gross Division were earned by John Hayes & Dave Kowski with their score of 62. The father-son team of Brett & Chase Johnson advanced in the Net Division with a score of…you guessed it, 62 – which of course matches last year’s winning Net score of 62 shot by Gary Magana and Rich Gregson. Both teams would undoubtedly take a pair of 62s at the National Finals at Troon North Golf Club in August.
Talking Stick Golf Clubin Arizona also hosted a successful Troon Challenge with results less peculiar than those at Yocha Dehe, but still exciting. In fact Peter Lugowski & Mike Kosolcharoen’s score of 66 was just enough to win by one stroke in the Gross Division, while the Net Division was decided by a scorecard playoff. As a result, Todd Ney & Timothy Randall will be representing Talking Stick at the National Finals in the Net Division.
The Troon Challenge is a series of amateur golf tournaments held May through August at 15 Troon Golf courses in Arizona, California and Florida. Teams of 2 players compete in local qualifier events for a chance to earn a spot at the Troon Challenge National Finals, August 28-29, 2010 at Troon North Golf Club. The entry fee at local qualifying events includes your green fee, cart, practice balls, one dozen Callaway golf balls, event prizes and a post-tournament awards reception.
