Alec Heinen and Nick Hardy Sit Close Behind

MARICOPA, Arizona - With more rain on day 2, a trio of players have separated themselves from the field at the Saguaro Amateur at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Wes Artac of Kingwood, Texas, shot a second straight 68 to lead at 8-under par by one shot over Alec Heinen (Edmond, Oklahoma) and another shot over Nick Hardy (Northbrook, Illinois). Heinen shot 6-under 66 and Hardy had the round of the day with the tournament-low 65. Artac has been very consistent with 11 birdies and 3 bogeys over 36 holes. Heinen has made seven birdies and a bogey on day two. Hardy's bogey-free 65 included seven birdies. Full results can be found at www.saguaroamateur.com.

Notes

The weather was a main story again here today as temperatures didnt get out of the 50s and competitors battled rain throughout the day. Precipitation is expected throughout the night but we are hopeful that the final round will be played.

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes played easier today as the field averaged 74.5, 1.6 shots lower than round one. The course was set up slightly shorter and with less wind.

About the Saguaro Amateur:
The Saguaro Amateur is in its third year and has established itself as one of the top individual men's amateur events in the US over the winter months. It was founded by University of Colorado Head Men's Golf Coach Roy Edwards and University of Wyoming Head Men's Golf Coach Joe Jensen. The host golf course is Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, which plays to a distance of 7395 yards and par of 72. It was designed by Schmidt-Curley-Couples and has hosted numerous professional and amateur events in its short but heralded history.
