Last year, he could taste it.
Jin Chung, Teaching Professional at Château Élan in Braselton, GA and member of the Georgia PGA Section, finished as the runner up 2020 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. He was just two shots back playing with the final group in the end but the finishing top 4 gave him exemptions to next year.
Fast forward to November 2021, Jin took full advantage. After firing a two-under 70 on Sunday, Jin finished seven shots better than the next closest competitor to win the 2021 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship supported by Srixon/Cleveland Golf/XXIO/Asics.
“It means a lot. God is good and he was in every step with me,” Jin said to Troon.com. “As a coach and a player, to be able to compete at National Championship and finish 2nd last year and winning this year is amazing feeling. It is special win with a huge support from my family, fiancé, coach, friends, sponsors and fellow PGA professionals.”
Chung held off Brian Bergstol from the Philadelphia PGA section with a four-day total of 14-under 274. Bergstol entered the final round one-shot back, but shot four-over par 76. He finished second ahead of Eric Steger from the Indiana PGA Section and Jeremy Wells from the South Florida PGA Section.
“My driver, iron play, and putting were solid whole week,” said Jin. “I have put a lot of work in with my coach to drive it better, to hit many greens and stay aggressive and it worked out. Driving helped me out a lot especially last day to stay at the top of the leaderboard.”
Now Jin is excited to return home to his friends, family and students at Château Élan with a championship and is proud to have represented his community.
“I am excited to bring the trophy to Château Élan and to Georgia Section,” Jin stated. “I had a lot of support from Château Élan, Georgia Section, and fellow PGA professionals so I am excited.”
