Going Behind The Scenes At The Grove

The Grove

Golf returns to The Grove in just under a week and we’re excited to see golfers back out enjoying one of the UK’s finest golf courses. But what’s been happening behind the scenes at this fantastic facility during lockdown? Keep reading to find out.

Maintaining 18 Glorious Holes of Golf

From maintaining the golf greens to rescheduling bookings and training, the team at The Grove has been busy.

Maintaining 18 holes would be a mammoth task for most, but not for the greens team who you’ll find on the course from the early hours. The PGA Teaching Professionals have been taking the time to improve their swing with fitness programs and training sessions to keep them up to date with the modern golf game. But the training hasn’t been just for the professionals; the golf operations team has been spending time on their personal development programs too, in order to provide the very best golf experience for each and every guest.

Are you ready to get back out onto the golf course? Bookings can now be made online up to 60 days in advance. And, anyone who books online will automatically be entered into a monthly draw to win a complimentary round of golf for 4 players.

And don’t worry, the team has temporarily re-invented the golf experience to ensure the safety of golfers and associates during this time. Read more about the experience and the measures in place.

A Helping Hand For The NHS

With plenty of free time on their hands, some of the staff at The Grove have been back at the facility to lend a helping hand in preparing lunches for Watford General Hospital. The NHS is facing a huge strain, so it’s been brilliant to see the teams helping to provide hundreds of sandwiches, every Monday to Thursday for the last couple of weeks. A great example of Troon’s #MomentsMatter and how our facilities around the world seek to inspire, lead and help!

Bedroom Overhaul

While some guests have had the pleasure of experiencing the first of refurbished bedrooms already, the team at The Grove has been utilising Lockdown 3.0 to complete the transformation of the West Wing bedrooms. Martin Hulbert, inspired by the nature that surrounds our 300-acre estate, has brought the outdoors in with earthy tones and natural textures. And the good news is, work is on track to have the whole west wing refurbished by summer!

Estate Transformations With The Gardeners

If you go down to the woods today, you’ll be in for a big surprise. The green-fingered gardeners have been busy transforming the estate ready for the next guests’ arrival, whenever that may be. Natasha, the Head Gardener says they have been “Coppicing hazels to create new boundary faggots which act as corridors for our birds, small mammals, and other wildlife. Of course, we are also ensuring new growth of the hazels as these will provide us with long straight material to use in 2 to 3 years’ time which will be used for structures in the gardens.” If you’re planning to visit The Grove for golf, take time to stroll through Asher’s Woodland Trails to see the transformation for yourself.
