MAHANTH CHIRRAVURI WINS DESERT AMATEUR

Chandler, Arizona—Local Chandler resident Mahanth Chirravuri holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole on the Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club to win the Desert Amateur.  His birdie on 18 capped a 5-under par round of 67 for a 54-hole total of 206 (-10).  The birdie broke a 6-way tie for 2nd place.  The drama unfolded all day with multiple players in and out of solo and shared leads.  Tying for 2nd place were Cameron Kaiser (Scottsdale, AZ), Colt Sherrell (Maple Valley, WA), Tommaso Zorzetto (Italy), Joseph Zambri (Camarillo, CA), and Raymond Navis (La Quinta, CA).  Ben Lorenz (t9th) shot the low round of the day with a tournament record-tying low of 65.

CHIRRAVURI ON THE WIN:  “It is such an honor winning this event.  This tournament had a great field and it shows that I can compete at the next level.  I put together three really good rounds and was fortunate enough to pull through at the end and come out on top.”
