The Cactus Tour, a golf circuit for women golf professionals to use in developing or re-developing their game in preparation for competing on the Symetra and LPGA tours, continued it’s truck through the desert this week as Troon North Golf Club hosted the tour’s Pinnacle Shootout.
The Pinnacle Shootout began on Monday, May 25th through the 27th in Scottsdale which saw participants from all over the world including Germany, Thailand, Russia, Finland, India along with many U.S. states represented. In the end, the leading German in the field was LPGA Tour standout Sophia Popov who came away the winner of the shootout, posting a 68-70-70 (-8) for the week and her third Cactus Tour win of the year.
Team Troon was represented as Cheyenne Woods was among the leaders all week and ultimately finished T3 (-1 for the tournament) and was the leader in the clubhouse after completing her final round. But Popov, of the 2013 University of Southern California National Champion and former member of the German National Team, and her solid final round put her well out in front in the end.
Popov was not the only former National champ in the field. Haley Moore from the National Champion University of Arizona Women’s golf team was also among the leaders all week and finished T3 as well with Woods.
