European Tour to visit Al Hamra Golf Club for first time from 3rd – 6th February 2022
– Inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital to be played at Troon International venue
Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, 24 October 2021: Troon® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing has confirmed that the European Tour will visit one of its UAE managed courses for the first time in 2022. The inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital will be played at Al Hamra Golf Club between 3rd – 6th February 2022 and will form part of a five-week “Middle East Swing” during the early stages of the 2022 season.
The Troon managed Al Hamra Golf Club will pull out all the stops to ensure that the third of five consecutive events in the region is a success and merits the $2m prize purse up for grabs. The tournament will take place after back-to-back Rolex Series events in the UAE, including the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

The course was designed to be friendly to all levels of players and Harradine Golf is extremely proud that the European Tour will add this venue to its esteemed list of courses. There is a great mix of differing holes which should prove enjoyable but also give many birdie opportunities to the top pros.”

Al Hamra Golf Club previously hosted the European Challenge Tour over three consecutive years from 2016 – 2018. It was initially the venue for the Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge in 2016 and 2017, before hosting the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final as the final stop on the Road to Ras Al Khaimah in 2018.
During the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final, Spaniard Adri Arnaus finished one shot clear of France’s Victor Perez, with the pair ending the season in second and third position on the 2018 Challenge Tour Rankings behind Denmark’s Joachim B. Hansen. All three players are now firmly established on the European Tour.

Al Hamra Golf Club’s Par 72 Championship course lends itself perfectly to all levels of golfers, providing the fledgling novice or the most accomplished of players with an enjoyable and interesting golfing challenge.
This eighteen-hole golf course, designed by Peter Harradine, meanders around four inter-connected open water lagoons merging seamlessly with the water of the Arabian Gulf. As many traditional courses do, the front nine measuring 3,578 yards makes its way out and away from the Clubhouse, whilst the back nine measuring 3,747 yards returns home around the lagoon to the Clubhouse. The result is a stunning Par 72 Championship Golf course measuring 7,325 yards at full length designed with five varying tee options on each hole.
Originally planned to be built on the salt flats bordering the water edge, some five million cubic meters of sand combined with expert shaping have come together to create gentle elevation changes as the terrain moves around the lagoons rising and falling from plus one to plus eight meters.
