HUNTING CREEK COUNTRY CLUB WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR OF GOLF
Prospect, Kentucky (February 16, 2021) – Hunting Creek Country Club, located just outside of Louisville in historic Prospect, Kentucky, recently named Ryan Sanders as its new Director of Golf. Sanders will oversee the private club’s golf operations, which includes a 7,157-yard golf course originally designed by club member Ben Wihry.
Sanders is a native of Louisville and alumni of Bellarmine University in Louisville. He is a 12 year veteran of the golf industry, having most recently served at Quail West Golf & Country Club in Naples, Fla. Throughout his career Sanders has worked at clubs up and down the East Coast, including Linville Ridge Country Club in Linville, North Carolina; The Vineyard Golf Club in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.; and at The Camargo Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

During his career Sanders has been a finalist for various Chapter and Section Awards, including Assistant Professional of the Year twice and Merchandiser of the Year, four times. He is passionate about creating experiences for members and their guests and believes the Club should feel like an extension of a member’s home, enhancing their daily life. When not working, Sanders enjoys working on his golf game, spending time with his family and teaching his daughter, Peyton, how to play golf.

After several months searching, we found the perfect individual in Ryan Sanders. His experience, dedication, and passion set him apart and we could not be more excited about his addition to our team. Hunting Creek Country Club continues its upward trajectory and Ryan only adds to our momentum.”
In late 2020 Hunting Creek Country Club unveiled its new 25,000 square-foot clubhouse, which includes a completely updated lobby, golf shop, a fireside lounge area as well as new dining options at The Grille 64 and the Partridge Lounge. In addition, newly expanded outdoor social venues include a new bar area, increased seating and fire pits.
The Grille 64 is a new family dining option featuring an open display pizza kitchen and offers views of the outdoor patio seating area and 18th green. Hunting Creek Country Club has multiple connections to the number 64, hence the new Grille 64 name. The club originally opened on July 4, 1964 and the club’s first major event was an exhibition match between then PGA TOUR professionals Ken Venturi and Louisville native, Bobby Nichols. Venturi shot a course record 64 and Nichols posted a 70. Earlier that summer, Venturi won the 1964 U.S. Open at and Nichols won the 1964 PGA Championship. On May 22, 2019 Kentucky Country Day High School golfer and member, Michael McAdams posted a 64 to tie Venturi’s longstanding record.
Additional club amenities improved during the clubhouse renovation include a newly designed golf pro shop, Fireside and Hunting Creek Rooms and 24-hour accessible fitness center. In May of 2019, Hunting Creek unveiled a new junior Olympic-sized pool.

Hunting Creek got its name from the narrow creek that traverses the 16th fairway. The creek originally had no name when golf course architect Ben Wihry and his partner Campbell Miller looked at it on a surveyor’s map. Miller, a history buff, suggested naming it Hunting Creek after the two streams – Little Hunting Creek and Great Hunting Creek – on George Washington’s Mt. Vernon property in Virginia. It was later adopted as the club’s name.
