MONARCH BEACH GOLF LINKS PREPARES For The NEW ST. REGIS HOTEL
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Troon Golf, recognized as the world leader in management, development and marketing of luxury golf facilities, is putting the finishing touches on improvements and upgrades to Monarch Beach Golf Links in anticipation of the new 400-room St. Regis Hotel, scheduled to open July 30, 2001.
Set on spectacular Dana Point and adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, the new St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort & Spa is poised to redefine the ultimate luxury resort experience in Southern California. The new development also offers the heralded “Troon Golf Experience” on the freshly renovated golf course that serves as the central attraction to the new $240 million Tuscan-inspired resort.
Spreading over 172 acres, Monarch Beach Resort & Spa will stand as the first-ever St. Regis seaside resort destination. In addition to the oceanfront golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., hotel guests also will enjoy access to the 30,000-square-foot Gaucin Spa, featuring a fitness facility and treatment rooms, three heated pools, two Jacuzzis, and 10 poolside cabanas.
“We certainly haven’t had to do much to improve this beautiful and intriguing golf course,” stated Monarch Beach General Manager, Alan Deck. “The upgrades we have made represent significant changes to this 20-year old layout that will allow the facility to better align itself with today’s luxury golf resort experience.”
Scheduled for completion by mid-July 2001, the bunkers have been renovated to replace the original bunker sand with crushed Augusta white marble, ostensibly the most playable and aesthetically pleasing bunker sand available.
The lakes on the course received a more manicured look around the shoreline and lake edges near the greens have been built up with rock walls that enhance the overall look of the green complexes set near the water.
The project also addresses maintenance issues through new and improved irrigation hardware around the greens, resulting in improved putting surfaces, and drainage improvements throughout the course. The cart paths have been upgraded and will be better able to handle the increased resort traffic.
Golfers who regularly play Monarch Beach from the tips will find themselves taking just a little more of a rip at the ball on 11 of the 18 holes. The additional yardage has extended the golf course by nearly 300 yards.
“While Monarch Beach has enjoyed immense success and accolades throughout its first 20 years, we would never wish for this grand old layout to merely stand on its laurels,” said Troon Golf President and Chief Operating Officer, Hud Hinton. “These timely improvements will allow this golf course to play to its fullest potential, and exemplify our high-end style of play where guests are always assured the highest levels of service on every visit.”
Other St. Regis Hotel locations include Los Angeles, CA; Aspen, CO; Houston, TX; Washington D.C.; Rome, Italy and Beijing, China, in addition to the flagship St. Regis New York, built by Colonel John Jacob Astor IV in 1904. Over the next two years, St. Regis Hotels will open in Shanghai, China, and in San Francisco, CA, and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
