Winners were announced at the 2010 Troon Golf Management Conference, which recently took place in Scottsdale, Ariz. January 18-20. Congratulations to the following award winners:

Colonial Country Club, Florida
This facility ranked among the top five in the company’s associate satisfaction scores and increased revenue and gross operating profit significantly compared to prior year. The associates at the club have truly gone above and beyond in delivering the Troon Golf Experience to the community and its residents. Finalists for the award included El Macero Country Club and Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass.

Steven Backman, El Macero Country Club, California
Steven oversaw a major revenue growth at El Macero Country Club while drastically reducing expenses and increasing member satisfaction scores. He has created a totally positive management environment that has played a major role in the incredible turnaround of the club. Finalists for the award included Lon Grundy from Troon North Golf Club and Marty Hoeffken from Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass.

Phil Beal, Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club, Australia
Phil has the unique ability to maintain the highest quality course conditions while keeping expenses down. His cost management expertise, people skills, equipment maintenance and work ethic are second to none. The result is a golf course standard that exceeds expectations and attracts widespread acclaim. Finalists for the award included Dustin Strickland from El Macero Country Club and Ross Laubsher from Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club.

BallenIsles Country Club, Florida
This award is given only to properties demonstrating a true “success story” and BallenIsles saw improvements across nearly every department. Communication at the club has been significantly improved, as well as the satisfaction levels of members, associates and board members. Conditions of the golf course saw a major increase in quality, along with the operations of the tennis facility and the food & beverage experience. Finalists for the award included Forest Dunes Golf Club and Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club.

Indian Wells Golf Resort, California
Indian Wells features a highly decorated golf facility that has received six nationally recognized accolades since June 2009. Since joining the Troon Golf family, Indian Wells has increased green fee revenues 31 percent and total revenues 15 percent compared to prior year. The course has seen a seven percent increase in rounds to budget, as well as major improvements in food & beverage with two full menu revisions. Finalists for the award included Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club and Red Ledges Golf Club.

St. James Plantation, North Carolina
St. James Plantation had an exceptional year, marked by impressive financial turnarounds. The facility experienced a major increase in gross operating profit in 2009. This accomplishment involved the entire staff implementing expense improvement processes, which were accomplished while raising membership satisfaction scores. Finalists for the award included Southern Dunes Golf Club and The St. Joe Properties (Camp Creek Golf Club, Shark’s Tooth Golf Club and WaterSound Beach Club).

Penny Metcalf, Talking Stick Golf Club, Arizona
Penny provides an unparalleled experience at Talking Stick Golf Club through personalized service, consistency and uncompromising attention to detail. She is a true leader who has earned respect and admiration from those she works with and never stops thinking of new and creative ways to be more efficient. Finalists for the award included Keriann Martin, The Peninsula Golf & Country Club; Meg Phillips, Moon Valley Country Club; Wilson Patel, The Els Club; Hilary Sharp, Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club.

Peggy Hamm, Corporate Office, Arizona
Peggy Hamm joined Troon Golf in 2006 and has consistently been an invaluable contributor ever since. She demonstrates an impressive work ethic and is always focused on continues improvement. Her professionalism and dedication to the field make her the ideal associate for this award. Finalists included Stephanie Edwards and Guy Sugden.

Clinton Southorn, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, U.A.E. and Brad Hines, Agalarov Estates, Russia
The “W.I.T.S” Award was created to recognize those who overcome hardships and exceed at promoting the Troon Golf brand and operating philosophy under challenging conditions. Both Clinton and Brad have overcome many obstacles during their careers with Troon Golf, particularly in 2009. They work tirelessly at their jobs and are never afraid to take on challenging assignments.

Paul Hadreas, Corporate Office, Arizona
The Award of Excellence is not given every year and is chosen by the executive committee only on the most deserved occasion. Paul is the ideal recipient for this award.
