TROON GOLF MOTORSPORTS VICTORIOUS IN ROLEX GRAND-AM DEBUT

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Troon Golf, the world leader in luxury brand golf management, development and marketing, again celebrated in victory lane as Troon Golf Motorsports driver David Sterenberg and his team drove to a first place finish at the Road America 500, staged July 15th in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The event marked Sterenberg’s debut in the Rolex Grand-American Road Racing Series, as well as his first experience driving the Sports Racer Prototype II (SRPII).

“Usually, a driver would get a day to test drive a brand new type of car” said Sterenberg. “But our affiliation with ArchAngel Motorsports came together so fast, we barely had time to get to the race.”

The Troon Golf sponsored Lola/Nissan of ArchAngel Motorsport started 5th in SRPII with Sterenberg’s teammate, Ben Devlin also making his series debut behind the wheel. Taking over for Devlin at the “one-third point” of the race, Sterenberg pushed the car from 4th place to 2nd before handing off to teammate and current SRPII Champion, Larry Oberto who took the car to the checkered flag. The win was the 5th of the year for ArchAngel Motorsports.

“Road America is a premier circuit. These cars are so different from the open-wheels cars we are use to driving,” said Sterenberg. ” With the help and support of Troon Golf, we were able to race and help take Troon Golf Motorsports to a new level. The Rolex Grand-American Road Racing Series is America’s leading sports car and endurance racing series, culminating in the “crown jewel” event, the Rolex 24-Hours of Daytona.

To date, Troon Golf has supported the efforts of Scottsdale businessman and Formula Mazda Series driver Scott Kusy in the 2001 Star Mazda Series National Championship, as well as the championship winning effort of Troon Golf driver, Bryan Selby in 2000. This current venture into Grand-Am is a pilot endeavor as part of a three-year plan to carry Troon Golf and its motorsports team to greater exposure in a premier sports car series in North America.

“Besides being racing enthusiasts ourselves, Troon Golf is very excited by the additional awareness the Rolex Grand-Am Racing Series brings to the luxury brand golf experience we offer worldwide,” said Troon Golf Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dana Garmany. ” We are thrilled to sponsor these new endeavors, and are looking forward to more safe and competitive racing from our sensational Troon Golf Motorsports team.”
