Family Friendly on Kauai

THE OCEAN COURSE HOKUALA BECOMES FIRST FOOTGOLF EXPERIENCE ON KAUAI
Troon Destinations
A Jack Nicklaus Signature FootGolf course? Well, kinda. The Ocean Course Hokuala — the acclaimed 18- hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course with a half-mile of ocean frontage — recently introduced FootGolf as the latest family friendly activity at Kauai’s newest oceanfront resort, Timbers Kauai – Ocean Club & Residences.
Named “Hawaii’s Best Golf Course” for four consecutive years (2017-2020) by the World Golf Awards, the Ocean Course is one of the most scenic layouts in a state that boasts many truly magnificent golf facilities. And though the Ocean Course’s back nine oceanfront holes command the camera’s attention, the front nine plays across rolling pastureland, with one dramatic par-three playing over a mango forest, providing a very satisfying round even before players reach the Pacific.
That memorable experience is still available to resort guests and the public, but nowadays after 4 pm until sundown, the course is also open to FootGolfers as the only certified FootGolf facility on the island.
“FootGolf is gaining traction as a fun and inclusive activity for all fitness and age levels,” said Kellie Hines, PGA Director of Instruction & Community Relations at the Ocean Course Hokuala. “Whether playing competitively, as a team-building activity, or simply for fun, this is a unique way to experience our beautiful course.”
Players “tee off” using a soccer ball while targeting a 21-inch-diameter hole. The Ocean Course’s nine-hole, par-36 loop stretches 1,039 yards. Individual hole lengths range from 50 to 223 yards. Holes are cut into the rough to protect the greens and fairways. No special equipment is needed other than running or tennis shoes. Soccer balls can be rented from the pro shop.
Rates encourage participation, with adults paying just $15 and children just $7.50.
For residents and those staying longer, a monthly FootGolf pass is available for just $49, which includes unlimited daily play. The Ocean Course is part of Timbers Kauai, a private residence club which opened in June 2018 on the island’s picturesque southeast coast. Sited on a 450-acre natural amphitheater offering unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountains, in addition to golf and FootGolf, members and guests enjoy exceptional tennis, hiking, biking, beach activities, mountain adventures, and world-class dining. And, of course, exploration of Kauai’s many attractions is always encouraged.
An island that Hollywood film makers prefer for its perfect tropical setting films such as South Pacific (1958), Elvis Presley’s Blue Hawaii (1961), Jurassic Park (1993), The Descendants (2011) and Jurassic World (2015) are among the dozens that have used the lush Kauai landscape — sharp mountain peaks, gushing waterfalls, and broad ocean views — to their film making advantage.
SITED ON A 450-ACRE NATURAL AMPHITHEATER OFFERING UNOBSTRUCTED VIEWS OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS.
The private residence club offers an array of ownership opportunities, including spacious, lanai-lined three- and four bedroom residences for sale as whole ownership or as fractional ownership. Whole ownership opportunities are priced from approximately $3.9 million to $7.25 million for oceanfront condominium and townhome residences. Fractional ownership opportunities start at $430,000.
Amenities include a two-tiered infinity edge pool overlooking the ocean, spa services and wellness program, 17 miles of accessible trails, easy access to Kalapaki Beach, oceanfront dining at Hualani’s, extensive on-property activities, and full service concierge.
