Saltaire Yacht Club: A Hidden Gem

Cliff Drysdale Tennis manages clubs, resorts and locales of all kinds, and new to the family in 2021 is Saltaire Yacht Club. A seasonal club located in Saltaire, New York, this five court facility is tucked away on the Fire Islands that run adjacent to Long Island and the Hamptons of New York.
The Saltaire Yacht Club is a private organization open for membership to homeowners and renters who reside in Saltaire. The first Commodore was Thomas C. Maxfield who signed the incorporation papers in 1914. Over the decades, the club has evolved from a community center to a sprawling social club exemplifying the diversity of the Saltaire community.
Tucked on the Fire Islands of New York, this new addition to the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Family is one of the most unique clubs in the nation.
The club is divided into three parts: the restaurant, sailing, and tennis. The club owns a variety of sailboats suitable for the Great South Bay and different levels of sailing skills. From open sailing times to group and individual lessons, being on the water has been ingrained in the culture of Saltaire for over a century. The tennis club, which features 5 Har-Tru® clay courts, is a hub for activity and social life for hundreds of members each summer.
“The members of Saltaire Yacht Club are passionate about tennis, and we are so excited to be offering more programming and events for players of all levels,” said Scott McCulloch, Vice President of Operations for Cliff Drysdale Tennis. “Mitch Joyce is a fantastic director, and we are looking forward to a great summer season.”

Joyce joins Saltaire Yacht Club with nearly two decades of tennis coaching, management and event experience. Known for his signature energy on and off court, Joyce has held many Director and Program Director positions in the tennis industry, including most recently at John Newcombe Country Club in New Braunfels, Texas. New programming options for 2021 include a regular schedule of group clinics, private lessons with a full team of pros, organized member play, and monthly special events and mixers.
“I just want everyone here to love being on the tennis court as much as I do,” said Mitch Joyce, Director of Tennis. “We have adult camps, weekly clinics, lessons and fun events that will bring this tennis community together. I’ve traveled and taught tennis in a lot of places around the world, and getting on that boat traveling to Saltaire gets me so excited to make the tennis experience special.”
