Starting Again

Sixty-eight-year-old Jeff Parkinson was the original starter at Maderas Golf Club when Troon opened the Johnny Miller gem north of San Diego in 1999. Golf was simply in his DNA. And he had just retired a year before form the U.S. Marine Corps and was looking for something to do. Not to mention there was the free golf that came with the job.

“I certainly don’t do (the job) for the money,” chuckled the retired lieutenant colonel who spent 28 years in the Marines. “I do it because I love the game and I love playing golf with my buddies, and I still like to work a little bit, too.”
