Team Troon On Tour: Fitzpatrick and Noren Navigate The Winds at The Genesis

Team Troon was at the top of the leaderboard for nearly the entirety of The Genesis Invitational this week at Riviera CC in California. Matt Fitzpatrick took an early round clubhouse lead in round one and would stay within striking distance for the entirety of the tournament. In fact, his stellar play on Saturday (with crazy strong wind conditions), would put him two back of the lead and in the final group on Sunday. Fitzpatrick’s placement in the final group provided a number of great television shots/coverage of his All Troon bag on Sunday both on Golf Channel and on the network broadcast (screen grab below).

Ultimately, Fitzpatrick would shoot a final round 71 and finish T5 (five shots back of the playoff that eventual winner Max Homa would take over Tony Finau). While this was not the finish we are sure he was vying for, it was solid finish nonetheless that earned him 105 valuable Fed Ex Points. Speaking of solid finishes, Alex Noren played consistently last week (including a first page leaderboard, first round 67). His solid showing would result in a T12 finish.

Coming Up This Week

PGA TOUR

The PGA TOUR goes coast to coast with the first 2021 World Golf Championships to be played…the WGC Workday Championship at The Concession. This event was the relocated WGC that  last year was played in Mexico, with Patrick Reed as the defending champion. Team Troon will be well represented with the following players in the field:

  • Matthew Fitzpatrick
  • Matt Kuchar
  • Justin Thomas
  • Gary Woodland

PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR

The Champions Tour has had quite a big break in their schedule since the January start on Hawaii Island for the Mitsubishi. The next event on the schedule is finally this week for the Cologuard Classic played in Tucson, Arizona. Colin Montgomerie and is all Troon bag will be in the field and will be looking to build off of his T26 finish in Hawaii. Go Colin!

LPGA TOUR

The LPGA Tour is in an off week, but Cheyenne Woods is prepping for her first LPGA start of the 2021 calendar year with the upcoming LPGA Drive On Championship presented by Volvik at Golden Ocala in Florida (March 4-7). Some cool highlights of Cheyenne’s upcoming schedule include an appearance at the Troon Golf – managed Longbow Golf Club for the Symetra Tour’s Carlisle Arizona Golf Classic (March 17-21) and the next week at another Troon-affiliated destination in the Kia Classic at stunning Aviara Golf Club at the Park Hyatt Aviara  in Carlsbad, CA (March 25-28).

Have a great week and Go #TeamTroon!
