Team Troon On Tour: Global in Nature

This week’s edition of Team Troon on Tour continues with the “global theme” as we had Team Troon members competing on either side of the globe. One in the second event in UAE for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and two in the USA at the Farmers Insurance Open, in San Diego California… (and a touch of foreshadowing as the European Tour moves next week to another Troon-managed facility)…

Lets start in Dubai. Matt Fitzpatrick and his all Troon bag was in contention this week at the second European Tour event in UAE…he ultimately strung together four consistent rounds of 70, 71, 70, 70  to finish T17 at -7 under and earn a nice Top 20 Finish.

The PGA Tour moved from the LaQuinta/Palm Springs area to Torrey Pines in San Diego (also site of this year’s U.S. Open). Alex Noren and Gary Woodland were both in the field. Both got off to hot starts and where both on page one of the leaderboard. Noren with a first round 64 and Woodland with a first round 66. As many of you saw that South Course was playing tough over the weekend and both would slip a bit, but would have solid weeks. Noren would end up finishing T37 and Woodland would end up finishing T48

Coming Up This Week

PGA Tour

The PGA Tour moves from California to Arizona…right up the road from Troon’s Scottsdale Headquarters, for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Normally a loud, party-like environment, this year’s edition of the WMPhoenix Open, like all events on tour, will sound different. There will be fans (socially distanced, masked up, etc) but only 5000 (well shy of some of the crazy high attendance numbers that the event sees…which on Friday and Saturday surpass 200,000). The infamous 16th hole will have one level of open air viewing areas/suites (again not the 3 level coliseum it normally is…but it will still be an intimidating shot that plays a role in the tournament outcome. Bottom line is this year’s event may be quieter but it also will still showcase some great golf and great Arizona February weather. To the point of great golf…look for Team Troon members to be creating excitement this week. Team Troon players in the field include:

  • Matt Kuchar
  • Justin Thomas
  • Gary Woodland

European Tour

The cool thing about this stretch in the European Tour schedule is that Troon-managed facilities will host two of the first three events of the year! The week prior the Tour teed it up at Abu Dhabi Golf Club for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. After a stop last week in Dubai the Tour event this week is at the Troon- managed Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia for the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers. While we do not have a Team Troon player in the field at the event, the field is quite strong. It is headlined with Dustin Johnson, Bryson Dechambeau, Phil Mickelson….last week winners in Paul Casey and Patrick Reed… Abu Dhabi champion in Tyerrell Hatton and more. Best of luck to our entire team at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club. We look forward to tuning into the action and watching your amazing team host this global event.
