Team Troon on Tour: JT Earns Win at WGC and Climbs to #1 In The World

WOW! What an exciting week for Team Troon! The week was certainly headlined with Justin Thomas earning his 13th PGATOUR Victory at the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee. He broke out of crowded leaderboard with a couple of late birdies to earn a three shot victory…his first since the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua and his third of the PGATOUR “wrap around/start/stop/restart year”. In the process, Justin  reclaimed the title of World #1! It is pretty cool that the #1 Golfer in the World has Troon on his bag and is on Team Troon. Congrats JT from all of us at Troon!

Also worth noting Justin had Jim “Bones” Mackay on the bag (who was on Matt Fitzpatrick’s Bag the two weeks prior). That combined with Justin’s World Class play, let to some great national CBS Coverage of the Troon logo on Justin’s bag.

The entirety of Team Troon played well with Matt Fitzpatrick at one point being in 3rd place after three rounds. Here is how everyone on Team Troon did at the WGC St. Jude Invitational:

  • 1st Justin Thomas, -13
  • T6 Matt Fitzpatrick, -9
  • T25 Matt Kuchar, -5
  • T35 Patrick Cantlay, -3
  • T57 Gary Woodland, +2

Alex Noren earned a Top 10 Finish at the Barracuda Championships, finishing T9 for +32 in the Stableford formatted event that took place in Truckee, California. His Top 10 finish earned him more valuable Fed Ex points climbing him from #82 to #77. Alex is playing well and congrats on the T10 Finish.

  • T9, Alex Noren, +32 (Stableford Format)

This week marked the debut of Colin Montgomerie carrying his “all Troon bag” on the first event of the restarted Champions Tour…the Ally Championship taking place in Michigan. Colin had some good Troon mojo that had him as high as 8th place going in to the final round. A rough final round would put him at -5 for the tournament, but would have him finishing in a respectable T34 finish.

  • T34, Colin Montgomerie, -5

The LPGA Tour kicked offer their restart to the season with the Drive On Championship. Cheyenne was rocking her all Troon bag at the event that played tough (only 5 players finished under par). She would hang in there, make the cut and ultimately grind out a T67 finish in her first LPGA tour back, post pandemic shutdown.

  • T67 Cheyenne Woods, +9

Shareable

This morning Cheyenne Woods pushed out a really cool Instagram post to her 148K followers, speaking to her appreciation of the course/layout at Inverness, plugging her next event @MarathonLPGA and featuring the all Troon Bag in the foreground! Really cool. Be sure to follow Cheyenne on her social channels…and thank you Cheyenne!

Colin Montgomerie changed the homepage of his personal brand website to the new photography taken at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples when he was there prepping for the Champions Tour restart. He has a large image on the site with a link to the press release we pushed out last week with the announcement of his addition to Team Troon. Really cool. Check it out when you can at www.ColinMontgomerie.com and be sure to follow him on social channels, as well. Great to have him on Team Troon!
