The final stage of the PGA TOUR Fed Ex Cup playoffs concluded with a Monday/Labor Day finish at East Lake in Georgia. Team Troon member Justin Thomas went into the event seeded (if that is the correct term) at #3, starting at -7, three shy of #1 Dustin Johnson (-10). JT played some sound golf all week/weekend, and got within two of DJ on the back nine of the final round. Ultimately, he would fall just short of the Tour Championship / Fed Ex Cup title, finishing in 2nd place to DJ. The NBC/Golf Channel broadcast team shared an interesting fact that three out of the last four years Justin has finished in the Top 3 of Fed Ex Cup (including his 2017 Fed Ex Cup title). Congrats Justin on a great finish to another great year. We are proud to have you on Team Troon!
While the LPGA Tour had a one week gap in the schedule, Cheyenne Woods teed it up in last week’s Symetra Tour event: the Four Winds Invitational in South Bend Indiana. Cheyenne played well finishing T6 after three solid rounds of 71-72-69 to finish the tournament at -4, seven shots back of eventual winner Kim Kaufman. Solid playing Cheyenne!
Coming Up Next Week
While many of the Team Troon members are taking a week off to prepare for the following week’s US Open at Winged Foot, the PGATOUR bounces to the west coast and moves to the Troon-managed Silverado Resort in Napa for the Safeway Open. The defending champion is Cameron Champ and other notables in the field include: Brandt Snedeker, Jordan Spieth, and fresh off his Champions Tour debut/victory, World Golf Hall of Famer and Callaway Golf ambassador Phil Mickelson. The Golf Channel will be covering all four rounds so tune in. Note: Safeway Open television coverage will include – Thursday-Friday, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. ET (Golf Channel). Saturday-Sunday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (Golf Channel) Best of luck to our amazing team of associates at Silverado for what will be a great Safeway Open!
The Champions Tour moves to Sioux Falls, SD for the Sanford International. Colin Montgomerie will be in the field rocking his all Troon Bag. Fun fact: The event title sponsor is Sanford Health (the event itself has a great mission, which in part, states: “Using our platform as a premier tournament on the PGA TOUR Champions, we strive to make a positive impact on our community through our support of local charitable organizations.” Additionally Sanford Sports also has an amazing health/sports complex in Sioux Falls, the Sanford Sports Complex. Within this sports complex is Great Shots, a Troon-managed Golf Entertainment complex (so there are a couple of big Troon ties to the event and the community). Best of luck to our clients, partners and friends in the Sanford family for what will be a great event. We are pulling for a Colin Montgomerie / Team Troon win this week at the Sanford International!
In support of Women’s Golf Day on September 1st, last week Cheyenne Woods shared a great Instagram video and Instagram story with an empowering message for women to get into the game…and do so at Troon locales around the world! She has an Instagram following of over 150,000, so we know her message was heard around the world. Thank you Cheyenne for sharing this great message and kind words of encouragement to women golfers around the world.
Colin Montgomerie took advantage of a 10 day gap in the Champions Tour schedule (between the event at in the Ozarks and this weeks aforementioned Sanford International) to come to Scottsdale, Arizona and work on his game. He made his Scottsdale base camp at our Troon managed locale in The Rocks…played/practiced at Troon North Golf Club…and even did a mini road trip up to the ponderosa pines of the Troon Privé gem in Pine Canyon Golf Club…sharing his travels via his Instagram account and his Twitter account. Thank you Colin for sharing your “off week” with Troon!
