Team Troon on Tour: Kuchar with a T36 finish at Silverado and its Ryder Cup Week!

PGATOUR

First off, congrats is in order to the entire Silverado Resort & Spa team on an amazing Fortinet Championship. The golf course looked great on the global Golf Channel television coverage and play by the strong field was stellar. Stellar play was on display throughout the week by the eventual champion in Max Homa. A California native and Cal grad, Homa took advantage of the “home region vibes” and played his last seven holes 5 under (including a hole-out for eagle from 95 yards at the par-4 12th) to capture a “come from behind” victory, his third PGATOUR title. Congrats to the champion and to the entire Silverado Team. Related to Team Troon…we had one Team Troon player in the field in Matt Kuchar. It was Matt’s first time back at Silverado in four years and he took advantage of the great golf course conditions and exceptional Napa weather to earn a T36 finish. His week was highlighted with a first round featured pairing (that resulted in a ton of great TV time) and a blistering second round 66 to vault him into contention going into the weekend. Round by round scores for Matt are below…congrats Matt on a solid week at Silverado!

Matt Kuchar also popped into a pre-tournament evening reception, that included a number of invited guests. Matt took part in a cool Q&A with the attendees and shared his view on the upcoming tour schedule (he makes his in “quarters”), gave high praise to Troon, Silverado and his resort accommodations (he stated that it is rare when you can stay on property and this week his lodging was great…including his Silverado Resort villa that was steps away from the practice tee) and even shared with us who is the best ping pong player on tour (he always picks Bubba Watson in doubles as he has game and is a lefty…thus plays that side of the table well). Matt’s insight was great and all in attendance appreciated his dialogue, interaction and fun takes.  Thank you Matt for sharing your evening with Troon!

Colin Montgomerie and his all Troon bag was at the Sanford International in Sioux Falls,  South Dakota. Colin strung together another solid week with T21 finish. It’s worth noting that Colin came off of a T25 finish the week prior and thus is trending well as we approach the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in November at Phoenix Country Club.

Cheyenne Woods and her all Troon bag were in the Pacific Northwest for the LPGA Tour’s Cambia Portland Classic in Oregon. Cheyenne played into the weekend, buoyed by a solid 71 second round and finished T63. Nice playing Cheyenne!

Speaking of Cheyenne Woods… she dropped a great Instagram Story featuring her cool Troon bag to her 161K Instagram followers in advance of her Sunday round. Thank you Cheyenne for the Insta love!

PGA TOUR – Its Ryder Cup Week!

Its Ryder Cup week as the 2020 version of the Ryder Cup takes place at Whistling Straits in Kohler Wisconsin. Last year’s event slid into the 2021 due to the pandemic. However, the extra year has only added extra excitement to the Ryder Cup… and extra anticipation on who will capture the cup this year. Will Team Europe retain the cup on US soil? Or will Team USA take advantage of a home course advantage to capture the cup (and Wisconsin golf knowledge of their WI-raised captain in Steve Stricker)? Team Troon has two players competing in the Ryder Cup. One on each respective Team…Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Thomas. Below are some details on each relative to Ryder Cup experience:

Team Europe – Matt Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick makes his second Ryder Cup appearance, and first since his initial appearance on the Team Europe’s 2016 team at Hazeltine. In 2021, the six-time European Tour winner has recorded six top ten finishes to sit comfortably in the automatic places on the World Points List. Fitzpatrick is great iron player and an elite putter so he will play a big part of Team Europe’s run to retain the cup at Whistling Straits.

Team USA – Justin Thomas

Also his second appearance in Ryder Cup play, Thomas was one of the top players on Team USA in Paris in 2018. His record was 4-1-0 including a 1 up singles victory over Team Europe’s Rory McIlroy. Combining his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup records, Thomas is  6-0-0 when playing Four-Ball. Thomas is also coming off a solid Fed Ex Cup run that included a hot putter, so look for him to be a force for Team USA.

Best of luck to both Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Thomas at the Ryder Cup this weekend!
