Team Troon On Tour: Kuchar With A Top 3 Finish at RBC Heritage

Team Troon: Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren, Cheyenne Woods, Colin Montgomerie

PGA TOUR – RBC Heritage

Following the first major of the year, the PGA TOUR stayed in the Southeast for the annual pilgrimage to Harbor Town Golf Links and the RBC Heritage. We had three Team Troon players advance to weekend play with a “near win” coming from Matt Kuchar. Matt played well all week with four rounds in the 60’s. His final round was capped by a birdie on the 72nd hole, the tough 472 yard par four to get to -12. Ultimately, Matt and would finish just one shot shy of getting into a sudden death playoff (at -13). A playoff that was ultimately won by Jordan Speith with a great up and down from the front bunker on 18. Justin Thomas would finish T35 following a nice 67 final round and Alex Noren would finish at -5 and T42 for the week. Congrats Matt, JT and Alex solid week (s).

  • T3 Matt Kuchar: 68-69-67-68 = -12
  • T35 Justin Thomas: 70-71-70-67 = -6
  • T42 Alex Noren: 70-70-67-72 = -5

Coming Up Next Week…

PGA TOUR – Zurich Classic of New Orleans

This week’s PGA TOUR event is a unique one in that it is a full field team event that includes a creative format featuring two person teams that  play best-ball on Thursday and Saturday and alternate shot on Friday and Sunday. Last year the Australian duo of Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith won the Zurich Classic in a playoff over Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel. A “fun fact”: no team has defended their title since going to the Team format in 2017. This bodes well for the Team Troon members Bubba Watson and Alex Noren. Bubba will pair up with Harold Varner III (who also finished one shot shy of the playoff at the RBC Heritage. Noren will pair with fellow Swedish PGA TOUR professional in Henrik Norlander.

  • Team Bubba Watson/Harold Varner III
  • Team Alex Noren / Henrik Norlander

Last year Team Bubba played well finishing T8 with a four round total of -16 and Team Noren/Norlander finished strong at T21. As such, look for Team Watson/Varner III and Team Noren/Norlander to contend this week. To that end, below are Team Troon odds for the Zurich Classic from PointsBet:

Current Odds To Win The Zurich Classic Of New Orleans. Odds Presented by PointsBet. Bubba Watson= +2500. Alex Noren= +6600.

PGA TOUR Champions – Irving, Texas

After a few weeks off following the Rapiscan Systems Classic at Grand Bear Golf Club (congrats again to the team there on a great event earlier this month) the PGA Champions Tour heads to the Dallas area for the next event on the schedule. This week, Colin Montgomerie and his “all Troon bag” will be in the field competing his share of the $2M purse and valuable Charles Schwab Cup Points. Go low this week Colin! The World of Troon will be pulling for you!

Colin Montgomerie

Have a great week… and Go Team Troon!
