Team Troon on Tour: Noren w/ a T6 Finish and Four Top 15 Finishes at WM Phx Open. Plus it’s Chubb Classic Week at Tiburon (and a ton more)!

Team Troon: Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren, Cheyenne Woods, Colin Montgomerie

The most well attended golf tournament in the world in the WM Phoenix Open put golf center stage (to golfers and non-golfers alike) in Scottsdale, Arizona …the city where Troon began in 1990. Team Troon was well represented at what is commonly referred to as “The Greenest Show on Grass” or “The People’s Open”. Alex Noren was low Team Troon member with a solid T6 finish at -14, just two shots shy of the playoff with Cantlay and eventual winner in Scottie Scheffler. Justin Thomas (with a dramatic chip in on 16 and birdie on 17 in the final round) would finish T8 after posting a solid 66 final round. Playing in his first WM Phoenix Open, Matt Fitzpatrick would play very well for the week to earn a Top 10 finish (also donning his favourite Sheffield United kit…aka jersey on Saturday on 16). Fan favorite Bubba Watson also contended (and early in his final round was on the front page of the leaderboard). Bubba would finish -11 for a solid T14 finish.

In total it was great to see FOUR Team Troon membership finishing within the Top 15! Really great playing Team Troon!

  • T6 Alex Noren: 67-68-67-68 = 270 / -14
  • T8 Justin Thomas: 67-70-68-66 = 271 / -13
  • T10 Matt Fitzpatrick: 70-68-67-67= 272 / -12
  • T14 Bubba Watson: 67-69-68-69 = 273 / -11

PGA TOUR – Genesis Invitational

The PGA TOUR slides back over to California for the Genesis at Riviera CC. Team Troon members in the field include: Matt Fitzpatrick, Matt Kuchar, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson. Go Team Troon!

PGA Champions Tour – Chubb Classic

The first PGA Champions Tour event on the “mainland” USA tees off this week on “Troon Turf” in the Chubb Classic at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort. Fun Fact: Tiburón Golf Club is the only golf facility in the world to host LPGA Tour, PGA TOUR Champions and PGA TOUR-sanctioned tournaments over a three-month stretch. The Chubb Classic this week…then prior to that, they hosted the  QBE Shootout (December 10 – 12). A few weeks prior to that, they hosted LPGA’s season ending CME Group Tour Championship (November 18 – 21).  The CME Group Tour Championship and QBE Shootout are both played on Tiburón’s Gold Course, while the Chubb Classic will be contested on the Black Course at Tiburón.

Team Troon member Colin Montgomerie makes his 2022 PGA Champions Tour debut at Tiburon rocking his all Troon bag. Go Colin!

DP World Tour

While not Team Troon related per say, congrats is in order to the entire team at Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The team just completed an amazing feat of hosting TWO back-to-back DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) events! The Ras Al Khaimah Classic last week, captured by Ryan Fox and the Ras al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital, which was won by Nicolai Højgaard. The action for both events was televised in global fashion. We know that team worked tirelessly not only the past two weeks, but also during the weeks leading up to the event…and for that: THANK YOU. Also props/praise to the Al Hamra Golf Club team for incorporating some great Troon marketing during their Ras Al Khaimah Classic. One example is below:

Shareable
With the PGA TOUR being in Scottsdale, we had a ton of great shareable moments from Team Troon.

The week kicked off with Cheyenne Woods playing with lucky winners of a Troon Rewards sweepstakes i.e. our Golf with Cheyenne Woods on WM Phoenix Open Week at Eagle Mountain Golf Club. The winners enjoyed a great day and it created great social engagement. As shared in last week’s Team Troon on Tour Cheyenne actively promoted the giveaway on her social channels. Thank you!

On Tuesday we executed reception to kick off the week that featured a Q&A with Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland. Gary shared short game tips with attendees and both players participated in a fun/engaging Q&A with attendees. Thank you JT and Gary, for sharing your week with us!

On Wednesday, Matt Kuchar and Alex Noren popped into the Troon Scottsdale office for a meet up with associates and a CTP contest in the simulator. Thank you Matt/Alex!

Throughout the week we executed a cross promotion with Bubba Watson and Linksoul whereby if Bubba made a hole-in-one during any round of the WM Phoenix Open, one lucky winner would take home one of every item currently available at Linksoul.com or Linksoul’s Oceanside retail store. PLUS a Troon / Kaua’i golf vacation that included accommodations at Royal Sonesta Kaua’i Resort, golf at both the Ocean Course Hokuala and Princeville Makai Golf Club along with a travel stipend. The promotion was cross promoted via Bubba Watson (Instagram Story), Linksoul and Troon. While he did not make a HIO, we will still draw one lucky winner to receive a $1000 Linksoul gift card and a Troon National Foursome Card ($1000 value). A snip of the promo follows. Thank you Team Bubba for the collaboration!

Linksoul and Bubba Watson contest. If Bubba Watson makes a hole-in-one at the WM Open, then contest participant wins a trip to Hawaii.

Speaking of Bubba we also included a Troon valuables pouch and VIP card in swag bags Bubba threw to the fans on 16. He tagged Troon in the related posts on his Instagram account that has 942K followers. Thank you Bubba for the collaboration!

In the same “sweepstakes vein”, we executed a cool giveaway early in the week with Matt Fitzpatrick and his 95K Twitter followers giving away a chance to watch his practice round and get hospitality on Tuesday. The tweet received nice engagement, retweets and added to the social mojo this week.

Early in the week Gary Woodland tweeted plug for our Troon area courses to his 119K followers. Thank you Gary!

Lastly, while not Team Troon related, we would be remiss if we did not share the story of Ben Silverman. Ben, a Korn Ferry Tour player who practices and plays out of BallenIsles Country Club, came to Arizona without a spot in the event. On Monday he carried his own bag in the Monday Qualifying, shot 66 and beat 76 other amazing professionals to earn a Monday Qualifier spot last week to compete with the best in the world. While he fell just one shot shy of weekend play (the cut was -2..Ben finished at -1), we know everyone at BallenIsles and throughout Troon, was proud of his effort. Thank you Ben for sharing your week with us.

Have a great week and GO TEAM TROON!
