We can’t begin this week’s Team Troon on Tour without first wishing a congrats to six time major winner, Callaway ambassador and now the oldest player to win a major in Phil Mickelson on his record setting performance to capture the PGA Championship at Kiawah’s Ocean Course. Also a huge congrats to our colleague, SVP of Operations and President of the PGA of America, Jim Richerson on a truly amazing event. Jim was interviewed a number of times over the telecast and each time, his name plate referenced his tie to Troon (Cool!) Also, during the trophy presentation they verbalized and introduced him in that same fashion (Really Cool)! Congrats Jim and congrats to the PGA of America on a tremendous event
Pivoting to Team Troon, we had three Team Troon players make it to weekend play at the PGA Championship: Gary Woodland, Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Noren. Early in the final round yesterday, at one point both Gary and Matt were inside of the Top 10, but the brawn of the Ocean Course would strike and both would have a challenging hole or two coming down the stretch. Regardless, Matt would finish within the top 25 at +1 for the tournament and Gary would follow, two shots back at +3 to finish T38. Noren would follow with a T55 finish. Complete results follow:
T23 Matt Fitzpatrick 73-71-72-73: +1
T38 Gary Woodland 70-72-72-77: +3
T55 Alex Noren 77-72-70-75: +6
Justin Thomas would miss getting into weekend play by one shot. Matt Kuchar also missed getting into the weekend as well… both were among many notables to not make it past the tough first two days of play.
Cheyenne Woods was in the field at the LPGA Pure Silk in Williamsburg, Virginia. She would miss getting into weekend play however after rounds of 76-77.
The PGA Tour moves to Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club with three Team Troon players in the field.
PGA Champions Tour
Its Major week for the PGA Champions Tour and Colin Montgomerie is ready to take on a strong field KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Look for Colin and his all Troon bag to contend this week. Go Colin!
As stated in the intro there was some great Troon inclusion when PGA of America President and Troon SVP of Operations, Jim Richerson was interviewed multiple times this weekend.
Matt Fitzpatrick was rocking a custom PGA of America Inspired Troon Bag that was Blue/Gold and on the side below the Troon logo included “#1 Employer of PGA Professionals”
Shout out and thank you to Ken Kosak and Keith Einwag from Belfair for sharing some cool photos we shared on @Troon Social over the weekend!
Also related to Matt Fitzpatrick’s golf bag’s…we did a raffle/giveaway for the custom Masters Matt Fitzpatrick Golf Bag to a lucky Troon Cardholder. The gentleman who won (Jim Napela) is a raving fan of Troon. The day he picked up the bag he had just played Kierland, was wearing a Troon North Shirt…and the day prior played Boulders. A shot of him picking up the bag in the Scottsdale office is below. Congrats again Jim!
