The entirety of PGATOUR Team Troon players are “across the pond” in preparation The Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club, and three members of Team Troon (Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas & Matt Kuchar) headed over early to compete in the Scottish Open. All three played great (more on that below). Plus, Cheyenne Woods has also been playing A LOT… competing in the last two LPGA Events (and is ready to play again this weekend). Complete “Team Troon On Tour” updates are below:
Results from last week Three Top 20’s in Scottish Open
Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas & Matt Kuchar were in the field at the Scottish Open and all three played really well. Justin and Matt were hovering in the Top 10 most of the weekend and all three finished within the Top 20. Good positive play heading into The Open Championship!
T9 Justin Thomas -18 – 67 64 70 65 266
T14 Matthew Fitzpatrick -17 – 67 65 67 68 267
T20 Matt Kuchar -16 – 63 70 67 68 268
Cheyenne Woods Plays Well at Marathon Classic
Cheyenne played in the Marathon Classic in Ohio and shot four consistent rounds…to get her in a T69 finish: 71 – 72 – 70 – 72 – 285. This was the second week in a row Cheyenne has played into the weekend and cashed checks. The previous week she competed in the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Wisconsin and also finished T69. She started off hot with rounds of 71-68 to get to weekend play, but then closed with 76-75. Regardless, she is playing solid and coming off her Marathon Classic play looks to make some noise next week as she competes in her third event in three weeks (more on that follows).
Coming Up Next Week
Cheyenne Woods is paired with fellow Wake Forest alum Olafia Kristinsdottir for the inaugural, Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational…featuring a unique two person team format. This event is the only event on the LPGA tour schedule (outside of the Solheim Cup or the UL International Crown) when players will compete with a teammate. The event starts on Wednesday with 144 players (72 teams) playing Alternate Shot, followed by Four-Ball on Thursday, Alternate Shot on Friday and then ending on Saturday with FourBall. Go Team Cheyenne/ Olafia!
As alluded to earlier in the email, all PGATOUR Team Troon ambassadors are competing in the final major of the year, the 148th Open Championship at Royal Portrush! This year’s Open will be the first time the event is back at Royal Portrush in 68 years and many players are saying it is one of the prettiest courses in the Open Rota. Royal Portrush hosted the 2012 Irish Open (won by Jamie Donaldson), but the courses has had a few tweaks since then….namely two new holes added from the adjacent Valley course. It should be a great venue to watch Team Troon play links golf this week. For those picking winners, be on the lookout for Matt Fitzpatrick, who nearly won the BMW International three weeks ago (lost in playoff) and is coming off his strong finish at the Scottish Open (T14 – just 5 shots out of a playoff). It is also great to see Justin Thomas play well (Top 10 finish, just 4 shots out of a playoff last week) as he gets his April wrist injury further in the “rearview mirror”. He is peaking at the right time.
Best of luck to all of Team Troon:
Shareworthy: #TeamTroon Matt Fitzpatrick and Cheyenne Woods with NEW Troon Bags
Both Matt Fitzpatrick and Cheyenne Woods are rocking new Troon golf bags! The new bags are Silver with Black font/logos…and boast a prominent TROON logo on the side of each. Below are some shots of them spotted on social this weekend:
