Team Troon On Tour: WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Recap & PGA Champions Tour Heads to VICI Golf’s Grand Bear Golf Club

Team Troon: Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren, Cheyenne Woods, Colin Montgomerie

PGA TOUR – WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

The PGA TOUR swung over to Austin, Texas for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event at Austin Country Club. This event is well timed, in that bracket style match play was on display the same weekend that NCAA March Madness kicked into high gear with “Sweet Sixteen” and “Elite Eight” match ups. Much like March Madness, this WGC event featured 64 of the top ranked players in the world playing head to head throughout the week. The first three days included Group Play, with each player with the highest point total advancing to 16-player, single-elimination matches on Saturday. Team Troon had four players in the event. While none made it into the WGC version of the Sweet 16, Team Troon was let by Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Noren who both finished with 2 points and in essence an T18th place finish. Bubba Watson finished with 1.5 points and Justin Thomas finished with 1 point.  University of Texas alum in Scottie Scheffler took advantage of some local knowledge to capture the event, beating Kevin Kisner 4-and-3 in the final match to claim his third title of the year and #1 ranking.

  • T18th  Matt Fitzpatrick – Points: 2
  • T18th Alex Noren – Points: 2
  • T26th Bubba Watson – Points: 1.5
  • T35th Justin Thomas – Points: 1

LPGA TOUR – JTBC Classic
While we did not have Team Troon in the field at this week’s LPGA Tour event, we would be remiss if we did not extend a huge congratulations to our friends and colleagues at  Aviara Golf Club and Park Hyatt Aviara for a great JTBC Classic! Park Hyatt Aviara once again played host to this premier LPGA Tour event with Atthaya Thitikul capturing  her first LPGA Tour title, on the second hole of a playoff to outlast Nanna Koerstz Madsen. At 19 years, 25 days, Thitikul is the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour since Brooke Henderson in the 2016 Portland Classic at 18 years, 9 months, 23 days. The course looked great on the Golf Channel coverage and the competition was exceptional!  Congrats to Atthaya and congrats to all involved at Aviara Golf Club and Park Hyatt Aviara!
