The 24-Hour Challenge At Al Hamra Golf Club Raises Over AED 60,000 For Charity

On Thursday the 1st April into Friday the 2nd April, sixteen golfers, a mixture of brave members, and guests completed a 24-hour Golf Challenge in aid of the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for People of Determination. The golfers included General Manager of Al Hamra Golf Club, Paul Booth as well as Chris Hewett, VP Hospitality for the Al Hamra Group.

Starting at 6 pm, the players completed a variety of fun formats including a 16-man on course group with 8 pairs better balls games on an empty golf course! The first real test hit in the middle of the night as the fog set on the golf course with visibility down to around 50 meters, however, this still didn’t deter the golfers and the players continued to play even if it was short game challenges and chipping competitions around the green.

A daylight hit and the players moved into the second half of their mammoth challenge; fatigue may have started to set in but morale was high and the support and camaraderie were certainly required to keep motivation as the players soldiered on.

The afternoon saw a fresh group of players, maybe not as brave as to complete the 24-hour challenge but keen to support the cause. A 1 pm start for a Texas Scramble event saw members of the UAE Special Olympic Golf Team, UAE National Golf Squad representatives and their coaches as well as members and guests competing to help raise funds.

Members of the RAK Centre for People of Determination also got their chance to try golf for the very first time with the assistance of Arabic-speaking Professional, Samir Wallani, helping to introduce new golfers to the game. As the 24-hour challengers finished their final hole, the members of the center were greenside to support and really put the whole event into context.

The evening saw a charity auction raising additional money for the center, with generous donations from Troon Golf, Hilton, RAK TDA, Marjan Island & the Waldorf Astoria. Over AED 60,000 was raised for the fantastic cause which will be presented to the center in the coming weeks once the final amount is in!
