Meet The Family: The Eden Family from Brookwater Golf & Country Club

The eden family at Brookwater Golf & Country Club

Meet The Eden family from Broowater Golf & Country Club in Australia. Dad Jason started playing golf when he found his own father’s golf clubs and now his son Matthew and wife Tania play and daughter Sophia has dabbled in the game too! And he is one of the longest-serving members at Brookwater Golf & Country Club, hitting 20 years next May. Read his families story.

How did you get into golf?

Jason found his dad’s clubs under the house one day and had a swing in the backyard. Then started playing golf after school with his mates. That hooked him for life.

How did you introduce your family to golf?

Firstly, Matthew started hitting golf balls around the backyard from the time he started walking, a few years later he began junior group lessons with the club pro and at around 9 years of age, he began playing on the Saturday comps. Around the time that Matt began submitting cards for his handicap, Tania realised she needed to get on board and get serious about learning to play the game of golf too – that was about 12 years ago. Tania enjoys the social aspect; she is a member on the members advisory committee at Brookwater GC. Daughter Sophia played for about a year, but she never really caught the bug which is a shame because she has the best golf swing in the family!

Tell us about your local Troon club and why you like it visiting there as a family?

Jason is a founding member of Brookwater GC. In 2002 they bought a block of land and built the family home which backs onto the stunning 16th hole at Brookwater. Jason appreciates the values that the great game of golf brings to the community. Tania really enjoys the social aspect and Matthew enjoys the banter with his mates on course. Sophia enjoys having the house to herself while the family are out on a Saturday morning playing in the comp and an occasional meal at the club.

What’s your favorite family memory on the golf course?

It’s hard to narrow down our favourite family golf experience down to one so here are a few of our all-time favourites.

As a family, we all once played in the Mixed Fourball Champs. We were not competitive, but it was memorable!!

Winning the mixed fourball, men’s fourball, as well as the parent-child trophy (with each parent), are all great moments to share.

Watching Tania barge through the crowd to get a selfie with her golf idol Adam Scott – embarrassing the rest of the family!

The entire family was escorted out of Cypress Point golf course car park as we tried to sneak a look at the course and those majestic views!

What is one golf club on your family’s bucket list to play at that you have not played yet?

Cypress Point CA, USA. We have unfinished business!
