Meet The Family: The Nami Family from The Els Club Dubai

Ben Nami and Son Oscar at the els club dubai

Meet Ben Nami and his son, Oscar who are members at The Els Club Dubai. Read his story about how he and his family got into golf and find out why his family, including wife Claire and daughter Ella love their local Troon club, The Els Club Dubai.

How did you get into golf?

I come from a golfing family; my Grandfather was a keen golfer, I then married into a golfing family and enjoyed many friendly games both in the UK and whilst on holiday. It was only when moving to Dubai that games became more regular, consistent, and competitive.

How did you introduce your family to golf?

Having grown up with golf as a weekend hobby, hearing about competitions and putts that nearly went in, golf was already in the family. Then seeing the enjoyment our children got from games of crazy golf whilst holidaying in Florida, it seemed natural then for the family to take up golf. Our son Oscar started lessons aged 3. He really has the bug now and we are hopeful that golf will be a massive part of his future.

Tell us about your local Troon club and why you like it visiting there as a family?

We are so lucky living in Dubai and to live just minutes from the clubhouse at The Els Club is such a pleasure. The Els is a really special place not only does it have a terrace with one of the best sunset views in Dubai but it also has the friendliest and most welcoming staff. As members, we are known by name whether it is in the pro shop, 261 or The Big Easy which is just so nice. The course is exceptional and you are always greeted at the halfway house with a big smile. We love spending time as a family at the new country club which has been a very welcome addition to the club.

What’s your favourite family memory on the golf course?

Life is all about making memories and watching our children having fun outdoors with our extended family when they visit is a big part of those memories. We have a tradition of playing golf on December 24th and that just gets better each year. Seeing my wife relaxed laughing with our daughter not taking life too seriously and our son’s dedication to improve with each shot is a memory in itself.

What is one golf club on your family’s bucket list to play at that you have not played yet?

Well it has to be Augusta, but of course that is unlikely to ever happen, so I would say St. Andrews Old Course as it is the home of golf.
