Team Troon On Tour: Top Five Finishes for Thomas and Fitzpatrick + Five Top 25 Team Troon Finishes at Valspar

Team Troon: Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren, Cheyenne Woods, Colin Montgomerie

PGA TOUR – Valspar Championship

The final event of the Florida Swing took place in Palm Harbor, Florida for the Valspar Championship. All six PGA TOUR Team Troon members were in the field, with five of the six not only playing into the weekend, but those five all finishing within the Top 25. Justin Thomas and Matt Fitzpatrick led Team Troon, with both players finishing within the Top 5, followed by Alex Noren finishing T12 and Matt Kuchar finishing T16. JT was playing strong all week and had the lead at one point during the final round. He would ultimately finish at -16 just  one shot shy of the playoff with Davis Riley and defending Valspar Champion Sam Burns. A playoff that would have Burns victorious on the second playoff hole. Regardless it was a really solid week for Team Troon with two Top 5 finishes, four within the Top 20 and five within the Top 25. Pretty solid showing for Team Troon.

Complete round by round totals for the low Team Troon players at Valspar were as follows:

  • T3 Justin Thomas  66-66-66-70 = 268 / -16
  • T5 Matt Fitzpatrick 67-68-67-68 = 270 / -14
  • T12 Alex Noren 68-70-65-70 = 273 / -12
  • T16 Matt Kuchar 67-72-66-69 = 274 / -10
  • T21 Gary Woodland 67-68-71-69 = 275 / -9

PGA TOUR – WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

With the PGA TOUR concluding its Florida Swing, the tour now heads to a different state for a different formatted event: the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. In a March Madness style event, this tour stop starts with the players in the field assigned a seed number for the competition determined by their position on the Official World Rankings. The highest ranked player in the field Seed #1, and the lowest ranked player in the field Seed #64. They are placed in four pools of 16 players and play matches against each other in their Pool for the first three days. The player in each group with the highest point total at the end of group play advances to the 16-player, single-elimination matches that begin on Saturday morning. Those 16 players get whittled down to 8 with four quarter final matches on Saturday afternoon. Sunday will be feature two semifinal matches in the morning and the final match in the afternoon (along with a consolation match) to determine the champion. Last year Billy Horschel defeated Scottie Scheffler in the finals with Team Troon member Matt Kuchar coming in third place via a win in the consolation match.

Team Troon will have four players in the field of 64: Justin Thomas, Alex Noren, Bubba Watson and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Interesting item of note: Bubba Watson is a past champion of the event, winning the event in 2018 with a victory over Kevin Kisner in the final match.

To that end, below are the Team Troon Odds, for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Event presented by PointsBet:

Points Bet Odds - Justin Thomas +1300, Mathew Fitzpatrick +3300, Alex Noren +6000, Bubba Watson +8000 odds

Betting 101 Courtesy of PointsBet:

When odds are shown with either a + or a – alongside a number, they are referred to as moneyline odds. There are two basic types of Odds: the “favorite” and the “underdog”. The “favorite” is shown with a minus symbol (-) followed by a number. The “underdog” is shown with a plus symbol (+) followed by a number. The lower the number, the better chance that selection has of winning. Ex: -200 has a better chance of winning than +200, while -110 has a better chance than +105. For example, if Justin Thomas is -115 and Alex Noren is +110, a $115 stake on Rahm would return $100 profit , while a $100 stake on Noren would return $110 profit.

While not Team Troon per say, congrats to the Longbow Golf Club team in Mesa, Arizona on a successful Epson Tour event (formerly Symetra Tour) last week in the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic. Fatima Fernandez Cano would shot a record setting 61 on Saturday and finish Sunday with solid play to finish at -17 and take home a 3 shot victory.
