Top Ranked Courses: Do they make your list?

Posted on October 22, 2008
Every year leading golf, lifestyle and travel publications announce their various rankings to the world, informing readers about the best of everything. Want to know what the country's top casino courses are? There's a list for that. Need to know where to find the planet's most posh golf resorts, there's a list for that too. Or, how about a list of the best courses that actually allow the average golfer to make a tee time?

Troon Golf obviously keeps track of these rankings - we currently have 36 courses featured on some of the best top 100 lists. Rankings are useful for marketing purposes and to measure how a course stacks up against its competition (bragging rights).

But how much influence does a golf course's national or international ranking have when you decide where to play or take a vacation? If a course falls off a state-by-state list, are you less likely to go back and play? Maybe you know what your personal favorites are and don't pay much attention to what made the latest list.

We'd love to hear your thoughts of how closely you follow golf course rankings and how it plays into your decisions on where to play.
